TL;DR: This work studied the effect of a zinc chelator on viral RNA synthesis and strong inhibition of AIMV RNA‐dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp) by ortho‐phenanthroline (OP) was observed.
Abstract: The necessity of coat protein for infection of plants by alfalfa mosaic virus (AIMV) and other ilarviruses distinguishes this virus group from other plants virus groups, Recently, the presence of both a zinc-finger type motif and zinc in AIMV coat protein was described [(1989) Virology 168, 45–56]. We studied the effect of a zinc chelator on viral RNA synthesis. Strong inhibition of AIMV RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp) by ortho-phenanthroline (OP) was observed.

TL;DR: This article reviewed and updated Lasswell's construct of the skill revolution arising from the differentiation of specialized environments in modern society, including three variants: the garrison-state construct, the permanent revolution of modernizing intellectuals, and the unspeakable revolution.
Abstract: In 1935 Harold D. Lasswell introduced constructs of the world revolution to improve the rational selection of topics and timing for policy research. This article reviews and updates his construct of the skill revolution arising from the differentiation of specialized environments in modern society, including three variants: the garrison-state construct, the permanent revolution of modernizing intellectuals, and the unspeakable revolution. Among transformations of the skill revolution facilitated by the growing interdependence of modern society, or globalization, are contending fundamentalist and cosmopolitan revolutions. A Gnostic revolution of declining faith in Western civilization is also possible. This article concludes with a preferential construct tracing a possible sequence of events leading toward a world order of peace, welfare and social justice.

TL;DR: The notion of a "criminal career" can be applied also to residential communities as discussed by the authors and the key to understanding community criminal careers in Britain lies within the operation of the housing market.
Abstract: The notion of a "criminal career," though generally used in reference to individuals, can be applied also to residential communities. The key to understanding community criminal careers in Britain lies within the operation of the housing market. The urban geography of most large British cities has resulted from historical developments unique to housing tenure in Britain. The tenure picture is unlike that portrayed in the Chicago model of concentric ring development, and the distribution of British offender rates therefore does not correspond to expectations of the Chicago model. Bureaucratic mechanisms for allocating housing in the public rental sector have profound direct and indirect effects on offender distributions and community crime careers. These mechanisms may help to maintain the stability of offender rates in particular communities, exacerbate the rate, or reduce the rate by changing practices in a given public authority housing area. Private rental, although severely diminished in importance du...

TL;DR: In this paper, a comparative analysis of six of the world's more industrialized countries: England, France, Sweden, Russia, China and Japan is presented, along with a chapter on Islamic law that uses Saudi Arabia, Iran, and Turkey as main examples.
Abstract: This comparative text provides an understanding of major foreign criminal justice systems by discussing and comparing the systems of six of the world's more industrialized countries: England, France, Sweden, Russia, China and Japan - each representative of a different type of legal system - as well as a chapter on Islamic law that uses Saudi Arabia, Iran, and Turkey as main examples. Political, historical, organizational, procedural, and critical issues confronting the justice systems are explained and analyzed. Each chapter contains material on government, police, judiciary, law, corrections, juvenile justice, and other critical issues. Each chapter introduces a country and then covers 'concepts to know', government, police, judiciary, law, corrections, and juvenile justice.
