Compact Substrate Integrated Coaxial Line Quadrature Hybrid with Harmonic Rejection

TL;DR: In this paper, a compact substrate integrated coaxial line (SICL) based quadrature hybrid operating at 10 GHz was proposed for X-band communication with controllable harmonic rejection.
Abstract: This article presents a compact substrate integrated coaxial line (SICL) based quadrature hybrid operating at 10 GHz specifically for X-band communication with controllable harmonic rejection. The proposed SICL based compact branch-line coupler utilizes four open-ended coaxial stubs. Design equations are analytically derived using even-odd mode analysis and the range of realizable impedance is graphically determined from the derived equations. Variation in position of transmission zero as a function of open-ended stub's electrical length is illustrated through simulation and a 15 dB harmonic rejection up to 31.8 GHz observed. The fabricated SICL based quadrature hybrid demonstrates a measured fractional bandwidth of 12.24% and occupies only 0.10λ2 g area. Use of compact size and electromagnetically robust passive components designed in SICL technology provides exceptional front-end communication system.

TL;DR: In this article, a folded half mode substrate integrated waveguide (FHMSIW) coupler is proposed and implemented based on folding half mode waveguide and single-slot couplers.
Abstract: In this letter, novel compact 3 dB double-slot and single-slot couplers are proposed and implemented based on folded half mode substrate integrated waveguide (FHMSIW) The size of the FHMSIW coupler is reduced by nearly 50% and 75% compared with half-mode substrate integrated waveguide coupler and substrate integrated waveguide coupler, respectively Prototype couplers at X-band are fabricated and measured and good performance in bandwidth, insertion loss, and balance are achieved

TL;DR: In this paper, a hybrid half-mode substrate integrated waveguide (HMSIW) and slotline guided-wave structure is introduced and investigated, which achieves a relative bandwidth of 17%~22% with 0.5 dB amplitude imbalance excited at different ports.
Abstract: Conductor-backed slotline suffers from potential problems of mode coupling phenomenon and yields unexpected effects. Previous designs are focused on how to suppress such a mode-to-mode coupling. This unwanted coupling effect may be purposely used to achieve a desired coupling between half mode substrate integrated waveguide (HMSIW) and slotline. In this work, a hybrid HMSIW-slotline guided-wave structure is introduced and investigated. Through a simple and efficient analysis approach, we design and fabricate a 3 dB hybrid HMSIW-slotline directional coupler, which achieves a relative bandwidth of 17%~22% with 0.5 dB amplitude imbalance excited at different ports. This type of substrate integrated hybrid coupler not only presents a compact geometry, but also preserves a great design flexibility compatible with various topologies.
