Journal ArticleDOI

The small world of osteocytes: connectomics of the lacuno-canalicular network in bone

TL;DR: A universal mechanism underlying the self-organization of individual cells into a large, interconnected network during bone formation and mineralization is suggested.
Journal ArticleDOI

Global synchronization in general complex delayed dynamical networks and its applications

TL;DR: Some simple yet less conservative criteria for both delay-independent and delay-dependent global synchronization of the networks are derived analytically and it is shown that under some conditions, if the uncoupled dynamical node is stable itself, then the network can be globally synchronized for any coupling delays as long as the coupling strength is small enough.
Journal ArticleDOI

Functional brain networks: great expectations, hard times and the big leap forward.

TL;DR: The recent application of complex network theory to the study of functional brain networks has generated great enthusiasm as it allows addressing hitherto non-standard issues in the field, such as efficiency of brain functioning or vulnerability to damage as mentioned in this paper.
Journal ArticleDOI

Link prediction using time series of neighborhood-based node similarity scores

TL;DR: The link prediction method proposed in this article results in a better performance than the previously proposed time series and similarity based link prediction methods under different circumstances by means of different AUC measures.
Journal ArticleDOI

Disease Localization in Multilayer Networks

TL;DR: In this paper, a continuous formulation of epidemic spreading on multilayer networks using a tensorial representation was presented, extending the models of monoplex networks to this context, and analytical expressions for the epidemic threshold of the susceptible-infected-susceptible (SIS) and susceptible-infected-recovered dynamics, as well as upper and lower bounds for the disease prevalence in the steady state for the SIS scenario were derived.

Optimization by Simulated Annealing

TL;DR: There is a deep and useful connection between statistical mechanics and multivariate or combinatorial optimization (finding the minimum of a given function depending on many parameters), and a detailed analogy with annealing in solids provides a framework for optimization of very large and complex systems.

Computers and Intractability: A Guide to the Theory of NP-Completeness

TL;DR: The second edition of a quarterly column as discussed by the authors provides a continuing update to the list of problems (NP-complete and harder) presented by M. R. Garey and myself in our book "Computers and Intractability: A Guide to the Theory of NP-Completeness,” W. H. Freeman & Co., San Francisco, 1979.
Journal ArticleDOI

Collective dynamics of small-world networks

TL;DR: Simple models of networks that can be tuned through this middle ground: regular networks ‘rewired’ to introduce increasing amounts of disorder are explored, finding that these systems can be highly clustered, like regular lattices, yet have small characteristic path lengths, like random graphs.
