Parallel computation of disease transforms

TL;DR: It is conjecture the impossibility of computing the Euclidean distance transform in polylogarithmic time on a mesh of trees, and approximate the distance transform up to a given error.
Proceedings ArticleDOI

Pyramid computer algorithms for determining geometric properties of images

TL;DR: It is shown that the pyramid is faster than either a tree of mesh machine, but, like the tree, the time needed by algorithms is quite sensitive to the amount of data movement required.
Book ChapterDOI

Alternative Computational Models: A Comparison of Biomolecular and Quantum Computation

TL;DR: It is observed that certain problems if solved with polynomial time bounds appear to require exponentially large volume for BMC (e.g., NP search problems) and QC and techniques for decreasing errors in BMC and QC are discussed, to insure the scalability of these methods to problems of large input size.
Proceedings ArticleDOI

Two tapes are better than one for off-line Turing machines

TL;DR: This work proves the first superlinear lower bound for a concrete decision problem in P on a Turing machine with one work tape and a two-way input tape and shows for off-line Turing machines that 2 tapes are better than 1 and that 3 pushdown stores arebetter than 2.
Journal ArticleDOI

Graph graphics: Theory and practice

TL;DR: A graph-theoretic characterization of some of the problems described, followed by a discussion of their complexity, and several algorithms and heuristics for graph layout will be discussed.
