Content management system

TL;DR: A content management system for information delivery systems, including web based systems, that organizes the content of the information separately from the appearance of the presented information is presented in this paper.
Abstract: A content management system for information delivery systems, including web based systems, that organizes the content of the information separately from the appearance of the presented information. The pages of the information are organized into documents and borders. Each border and document is further divided into an outline, organizing the content, and a template organizing the appearance. Individual content is stored in a native format enabling creators and maintainers to use familiar software tools for creation and maintenance. When retrieving the information, an assembly process gathers the content in accordance with the document's outline and formats the content in accordance with the document's template. The data structure allows triggers to be associated with content such that automated maintenance procedure can be implemented based on the activation of the triggers.

TL;DR: In this paper, a virtual file control system creates an illusion that the entire file is present at the connected node, however, since only selective portions of the large payload file may actually be resident at that node's storage at the time of request, a cluster of distribution servers at the distribution station may download the nonresident portions of file as the application server is servicing the user.
Abstract: Large payload files are selectively partitioned in blocks and the blocks distributed to a plurality of distribution stations at the edge of the network qualified to have the data. Each qualified station decides how much and what portion of the content to save locally, based on information such as network location and environment, usage, popularity, and other distribution criteria defined by the content provider. Different pieces of a large payload file may be available from different nodes, however, when a user requests access to the large payload file, for example, through an application server, a virtual file control system creates an illusion that the entire file is present at the connected node. However, since only selective portions of the large payload file may actually be resident at that node's storage at the time of request, a cluster of distribution servers at the distribution station may download the non-resident portions of the file as the application server is servicing the user. The download may be in parallel and usually from the least congested nodes. New nodes added to the network learn from other nodes in the network what content they should have and download the required content, in a desired amount, onto their local storage devices from the nearest and least congested nodes without interrupting network operation. Each node manages its local storage and decides what content to prune based on information such as usage patterns.

TL;DR: In this paper, a method and system for personalizing displays of published Web pages provided by Web content providers to meet the interests of Web users accessing the pages, based on profiles of the users.
Abstract: The invention includes a method and system for personalizing displays of published Web pages provided by Web content providers to meet the interests of Web users accessing the pages, based on profiles of the users. The system preferably provides to the requesting user, through a proxy server, an edited version of the HTML file for the original published Web page that is served by a host Web server. The system uses user profiles that may include demographic and psychographic data to edit the requested Web page. The content of a Web page as published by a host Web server may be coded to correlate components of the Web page with demographic and psychographic data. The user profiles may then be used to filter the content of a coded Web page for delivery to a requesting user. The system may rearrange content on a published Web page so that content determined to be of higher interest to a user is more prominently featured or more easily or quickly accessible. The system may also delete content on a published Web page that is determined to be of low interest to a user. In embodiments of the invention, a single proxy server or proxy server system personalizes Web pages from multiple Web servers, using a single user profile for a user.

TL;DR: In this paper, a multivariate negotiations engine for iterative bargaining is presented, which enables a sponsor to create and administer a community between participants such as buyers and sellers having similar interests, allowing a buyer/participant to search and evaluate seller information and negotiate orders and counteroffers that include all desired terms.
Abstract: A multivariate negotiations engine for iterative bargaining which: enables a sponsor to create and administer a community between participants such as buyers and sellers having similar interests; allows a buyer/participant to search and evaluate seller information (70), propose and negotiate orders and counteroffers that include all desired terms (74), request sample quantities (74), and track activity (58); allows a seller/participant to use remote authoring templates to create a complete Website for immediate integration and activation in the community (50), to evaluate proposed buyer orders and counteroffers (54), and to negotiate multiple variables such as prices, terms, conditions etc., iteratively with a buyer (74). The system provides secure databases, search engines, and other tools for use by the sponsor, which enable the sponsor to define the terms of community participation, establish standards, help promote the visibility of participating companies, monitor activity, collect fees, and promote successes. All this is done through a multivariate negotiations engine system operated at the system provider's Internet site, this requiring no additional software at the sponsors', or participant sellers', or buyers sites. This also allows buyers and sellers to use and negotiate payment options and methods that are accepted internationally. The system maintains internal databases that contain the history of all transactions in each community, so that sponsors, buyers and sellers may retrieve appropriate records to document each stage of interaction and negotiation. Documents are created by the system during the negotiation process.

TL;DR: In this article, a system for providing an interactive response to direct mail programs comprises a recipient database, a mail generator, and a web server computer operationally connected through the Internet to remote computers accessible by direct mail recipients.
Abstract: A system for providing an interactive response to direct mail programs comprises a recipient database, a mail generator, and a web server computer operationally connected through the Internet to remote computers accessible by direct mail recipients. The recipient database stores data records containing addressing information such as the name, mail, fax or e-mail address, and a unique personal identification code for each direct mail recipient. The mail generator retrieves recipient data from the database and generates a multiplicity of direct mail pieces each displaying the name, address, and a uniform resource locator containing the personal identification code for one recipient. A responding recipient accesses the web server computer by entering the uniform resource locator displayed on the direct mail piece into a web browser on a remote computer. The web server computer retrieves recipient data from the recipient database correlated to the personal identification code contained in the uniform resource locator and uses this recipient data to create a unique interactive web page.

Abstract: An integrated computer-implemented corporate information delivery system. A database stores research reports produced by and received electronically from brokerage firms. The database also stores corporate information about a number of corporations. Each item of corporate information is produced by and received electronically from one of the corporations about that corporation. Authorization information ("entitlements") specifies who is authorized to access each research report or item of corporate information. An entitlement subsystem allows the contributor of the research report or item of corporate information to dynamically change, on-line, the entitlement status of any or all users/subscribers. A research delivery module allows a user to submit a query and receive query results listing research reports and corporate information satisfying the query and that the user is authorized to access. A corporate register module outputs corporate information, the corporate information output according to a common format. The corporate information may be distributed via the Internet.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a method for establishing and maintaining a virtual outlet (VO) relationship on the Internet between an entity that controls and manages a web site constituting a VO and a merchant that controls a different web site.
Abstract: A method for establishing and maintaining a virtual outlet ("VO") relationship on the Internet between an entity that controls and manages a Web site constituting a VO and a merchant that controls and manages a different Web site. The VO presents a series of VO Web pages to customers that contain descriptive information about products from one or more merchants. Customers can link through the VO Web pages directly to a merchant Web page provided to the customer computer by the merchant computer for the purpose of obtaining more detailed information about the product and for ordering the product. When the customer has finished ordering a product, the customer computer returns to a VO Web page. To the customer, it appears that the entire ordering process is conducted entirely within the VO Web pages. The merchant then credits the VO for the sale of the product to the customer, charges the purchase to the customer, and sends the ordered product to the customer.
