Controlling and monitoring process in industrial automation using Zigbee

Abstract: WSN based Zigbee network has been extensively used in monitoring and controlling purpose in industries. In this paper, deployment of the Zigbee based WSN for monitoring and controlling the power at each work station in the weaving industry is discussed. Here the traditional working of the weaving industry is discussed and the suitability of Zigbee in monitoring and direct load controlling for the efficient power utilization is proposed. The CC2431 module is considered for wireless transmission. The controlling action is made possible with the microcontroller present in the CC2431 module. The main aim of this work is used to monitor the different workstations at industries using Zigbee devices and to correspondingly cut off the power to the particular workstation when it is in idle state without distracting the other workstations. The issues related with power and transmission range of the proposed work are discussed.

Abstract: Internet of Things (IoT) is rapidly increasing technology because today's world is internet world. IoT is combination of communication system and embedded system which is used to connect hardware devices to the network or internet. IoT is used for transmission and reception of data. These systems are used to monitor industrial applications by implementing industry standard protocols using IoT. In this system small scale industrial applications like liquid level control, energy monitoring etc. can monitor wirelessly through wireless devices, mobiles and laptops. The main aim of this paper is to summarize importance of IoT which will monitor small scale industrial applications.

Abstract: In recent years, in response to market demands, many features and functions are introduced to Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC). Today's PLCs are already benefiting from various new technologies, and built-in wireless is among evolving features that have not been widely adopted yet. This paper discusses the potential of utilizing ZigBee protocol for addressing wireless PLC current limitations through the design and implementation of a real-time wireless control and monitoring system. A Zigbee based wireless unit is implemented employing Arduino. The Arduino device provides network control flexibility and easy system reconfiguration. The evaluation results show the effectiveness of the proposed design and its feasibility in real-time wireless control and monitoring home and industrial application.

Abstract: This paper presents the implementation of agricultural monitoring system with Zigbee network. An indoor server has been constructed to monitor and record the transmitted data from two weather stations, which placed in different area in agricultural field. Programmable logic controller (PLC) is used as main controller in indoor server, interfacing with Xbee module as coordinator supported by Arduino to make the wireless communication achieved. The weather station are formed by Arduino, Xbee module as RFD (reduced function device) and different sensors. It can be measured the temperature, humidity, soil moisture and wind speed. All devices in the weather station are powered by solar charging system. The proposed system uses Modbus RTU protocol to collect the data on the Zigbee wireless network. Experimental results shown that the proposed system is suitable for monitor and record the environmental parameters. The system has high reliability, stability, low cost and low power consumption. The distance to communicate the data between indoor server and each weather station using Zigbee wireless is up to 200 meters.

Abstract: For the sake of overcoming the shortcoming of the wired system such as complex wiring and low anti-interference capacity, a wireless measurement and control system for greenhouse is developed based on Zigbee, which is composed of upper monitor control PC, wireless gateway CC2430, sensor node CC2430 and sensor module. The star network topology is adopted on the basis of studying the characteristic of the control system for greenhouse. The wireless sensor network with tree topology structure is made up of a center controller and six wireless sensor nodes, and then the node hardware circuit is designed including temperature sensors, humidity sensors and illuminance sensors. The wireless module software is programmed by C language in IAR Embedded Workbench for MCS-51 Evaluation, and furthermore, the user interface software is developed based on Visual C++ 6.0 in windows. The test is done in 70m×10m greenhouse where six wireless sensor nodes are evenly distributed, which shows that the measure error of the temperature, humidity, illuminance is within 3%.

Abstract: ZigBee-based wireless sensor network is proposed. It employs star topology. The work mode of wake up on-demand is adopted for the essential part of ZigBee WSN in order to enlarge the capacity of the sensor network and to resolve the problem of energy supply. We use the STOP mode, only a very low power transmitter is used to monitor the channel when the sensor node is NOT waken up and the sensor node is waken up periodically.
