TLDR
In this article, the authors review the many possibilities which have been explored in the literature to address this question, including origins at either Galactic or extragalactic celestial objects, and briefly discuss new physical processes which may either explain or be constrained by IceCube data.

Diffuse neutrino intensity from the inner jets of active galactic nuclei: Impacts of external photon fields and the blazar sequence

TL;DR: In this paper, high-energy neutrino production in inner jets of radio-loud active galactic nuclei (AGN), taking into account effects of external photon fields and the blazar sequence, was studied.

TL;DR: In this paper, the origin of high-energy neutrinos has not yet been fully answered and only a small fraction of what is known about this flux comes from a small ev...

Star-forming galaxies as the origin of diffuse high-energy backgrounds: Gamma-ray and neutrino connections, and implications for starburst history

TL;DR: In this article, the authors derived the expected intensity of the diffuse high-energy neutrinos from star-forming galaxies including normal and starburst galaxies, including those with active galactic nuclei and galaxy mergers, and showed that the spectra harder than E-2.15 are likely to be excluded by the IceCube data.

Indirect detection analysis: wino dark matter case study

TL;DR: In this paper, a multichannel analysis of the indirect signals for the Wino Dark Matter, including one-loop electroweak and Sommerfeld enhancement corrections, was performed, and the results showed that Wino is excluded in the mass range bellow 800 GeV from antiprotons and between 1.8 and 3.5 TeV from the absence of a γ-ray line feature toward the galactic center.

Extending the Search for Muon Neutrinos Coincident with Gamma-Ray Bursts in IceCube Data

M. G. Aartsen, +313 more
TL;DR: In this article, an all-sky search for muon neutrinos produced during the prompt γ-ray emission of 1172 gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) with the IceCube Neutrino Observatory was presented.

Evidence for oscillation of atmospheric neutrinos

Y. Fukuda, +124 more
Abstract: We present an analysis of atmospheric neutrino data from a 33.0 kton yr (535-day) exposure of the Super-Kamiokande detector. The data exhibit a zenith angle dependent deficit of muon neutrinos which is inconsistent with expectations based on calculations of the atmospheric neutrino flux. Experimental biases and uncertainties in the prediction of neutrino fluxes and cross sections are unable to explain our observation. The data are consistent, however, with two-flavor ${\ensuremath{ u}}_{\ensuremath{\mu}}\ensuremath{\leftrightarrow}{\ensuremath{ u}}_{\ensuremath{\tau}}$ oscillations with ${sin}^{2}2\ensuremath{\theta}g0.82$ and $5\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{\ensuremath{-}4}l\ensuremath{\Delta}{m}^{2}l6\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}1{0}^{\ensuremath{-}3}\mathrm{eV}{}^{2}$ at 90% confidence level.

Remarks on the unified model of elementary particles

TL;DR: In this article, a particle mixture theory of neutrino is proposed assuming the existence of two kinds neutrinos, and a possible unified model of elementary particles is constructed by generalizing the Sakata-Nagoya model, which gives a natural explanation of smallness of leptonic decay rate of hyperons as well as subtle difference of G_ν's between µ-e and β-decay.

Unified approach to the classical statistical analysis of small signals

TL;DR: In this article, a classical confidence belt construction is proposed to unify the treatment of upper confidence limits for null results and two-sided confidence intervals for non-null results for Gaussian processes with background and Gaussian errors with a bounded physical region.

End to the cosmic ray spectrum

TL;DR: The primary cosmic-ray spectrum has been measured up to an energy of $10^{20}$ eV, and several groups have described projects under development or in mind to investigate the spectrum further, into the energy range of 10^{21}-10^{22} eV as mentioned in this paper.

New parton distributions for collider physics

TL;DR: In this article, the authors extract new parton distribution functions (PDFs) of the proton by global analysis of hard scattering data in the general-mass framework of perturbative quantum chromodynamics.
