TLDR
In this paper, a textural co-occurrence analysis was applied to published scientific literature to assess current and future dominant trends, directions and priorities in beach litter assessment, and three approaches were proposed to overcome the research limits highlighted: the unequivocation of terms, the consideration of adequate scales, and the attention to dynamics rather than just patterns.About:

Towards a Circular Economy of Plastics: An Evaluation of the Systematic Transition to a New Generation of Bioplastics
Elda M. Melchor-Martínez,Rodrigo Macias-Garbett,Lynette Alvarado-Ramírez,Rafael G. Araújo,Juan Eduardo Sosa-Hernández,Diana Ramírez-Gamboa,Lizeth Parra-Arroyo,Abraham Garza Alvarez,Rosina Paola Benavides Monteverde,Karen Aleida Salazar Cazares,Adriana Reyes-Mayer,Mauricio Yáñez Lino,Hafiz M.N. Iqbal,Roberto Parra-Saldívar +13 more
TL;DR: A review of the history of plastics over the last century, including the most relevant bioplastics and production methods, the environmental impact and mitigation of the adverse effects of conventional and emerging plastics, and the regulatory landscape that renewable and recyclable bioplastic materials face to reach a sustainable future is presented in this article .
Journal ArticleDOI
Marine Litter Impact on Sandy Beach Fauna: A Review to Obtain an Indication of Where Research Should Contribute More
TL;DR: In this paper , the authors reviewed interactions of beach fauna with this pollutant and found that higher the urbanization surrounding beaches and sediment pollution, the higher the concentration of microplastics in organs of bivalves.
Journal ArticleDOI
Dunal plants intercepting macrolitter: Implications for beach clean-ups.
TL;DR: In this article , the abundance variation of macrolitter from the beach to foredune and backdune (three cross-shore plots over 20 longshore sectors) and the role of the halo-psammophilous plants and Phragmites australis reedbed in intercepting the macrolitters in the foredunes and back-dunes, respectively, were investigated.

Relationships between size and abundance in beach plastics: A power-law approach.
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the features of plastic litter distribution on a Mediterranean beach in relation to size and abundance of the sampled items, and the results showed effective relations between size and the abundance of plastic items according to the power-law distribution, which could support decision makers to estimate the total amount of beach plastics through the application of a simple model instead of more complex models requiring the estimation of many parameters and the availability of large datasets.

Locally developed models improve the accuracy of remotely assessed metrics as a rapid tool to classify sandy beach morphodynamics
Helio H. Checon,Yasmina Shah Esmaeili,Guilherme Nascimento Corte,Nicole Malinconico,Alexander Turra +4 more
TL;DR: In this article , a method to classify beaches using conditional tree inferences, based on beach morphological features estimated from public available satellite images, without the need for remote sensing processing, is presented.
