In this paper, the authors propose a complete, $d\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}} = \phantom''rule {0ex}0ex''6$ covariant and kappa-symmetric, action for the $M$ theory five-brane propagating in a supergravity background, which can be used for studying corresponding dualities and nonperturbative aspects of these theories.
Abstract
We propose a complete, $d\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}=\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}6$ covariant and kappa-symmetric, action for the $M$ theory five-brane propagating in $D\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}=\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}11$ supergravity background. This opens a direct way of relating a wide class of super- $p$-brane solutions of string theory with the five-brane of $M$ theory, which should be useful for studying corresponding dualities and nonperturbative aspects of these theories.

K-theory and Ramond-Ramond charge

TL;DR: In this paper, the relation between the Ramond-Ramond charges of D-branes and the topology of Chan-Paton vector bundles was discussed and it was shown that a topologically nontrivial normal bundle induces RR charge.

Nonlinear instantons from supersymmetric p-branes

TL;DR: In this paper, a supersymmetric configuration of type II D-branes with nonzero B fields was analyzed using the kappa-symmetric world volume action, and it was shown that the usual instanton equation for the gauge field obtains a nonlinear deformation.

Penrose limits, supergravity and brane dynamics

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the Penrose limits of classical string and M-theory backgrounds and proved that the number of super-symmetries of a supergravity background never decreases in the limit.
Journal ArticleDOI

Supersymmetric black rings and three-charge supertubes

TL;DR: In this article, supergravity solutions for $1/8$-supersymmetric black supertubes with three charges and three dipoles were presented, and the general solution contains seven independent parameters and provides the first example of nonuniqueness of supersymmetric Black holes.
Journal ArticleDOI

The Self-Dual String Soliton

TL;DR: In this paper, a supersymmetric self-dual string soliton of the M-theory fivebrane's equations of motion was obtained, which was then dimensionally reduced and used to obtain 0-brane and (p − 3)-brane solitons on Dp-branes.

The Dirichlet super- p-branes in ten-dimensional type IIA and IIB supergravity

TL;DR: In this paper, the full supersymmetric and kappa-symmetric actions for Dirichlet p-branes were given, including their coupling to background superfields of ten-dimensional type IIA and IIB supergravity.

D-brane actions with local kappa symmetry☆

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors formulate world volume actions that describe the dynamics of Dirichlet p -branes in a flat 10d background, where the fields in these theories consist of the 10d superspace coordinates ( X m, θ) and an abelian world-volume gauge field A μ.

Covariant action for a D = 11 five-brane with the chiral field

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed a Born-Infeld-like action for a bosonic 5-brane with a world-volume chiral field in a background of a three-rank antisymmetric gauge field.
Journal ArticleDOI

Gauge invariant and gauge fixed D-brane actions

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors presented actions for Dirichlet p-branes embedded in a flat tendimensional space-time, and showed that the kappa symmetry applies to all cases (p = 0, 1,...,, 9).
