TL;DR: In this article, the authors conducted a study on the hypothesis that distance education can be a proper training method for coping with COVID-19 prevalence in the current outbreak in Iran, and the results indicated the success of online education and supported this training method even though there are some problems in the transition from face-to-face teaching methods to modern methods.
Abstract: Context: Since the beginning of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Iran, the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Science, Research, and Technology in Iran have obliged universities and schools to use online education as a substitute for face-to-face teaching processes, while it has created several issues for teachers, schools, and universities. Evidence Acquisition: In the current review that aimed to investigate online education, specific instructional strategies are presented to summarize online teaching experiences for teachers who might use online education in similar situations. In this line, PubMed, Medline, Elsevier, and Science Direct electronic databases were searched for relevant studies that have been conducted since 2002. Results: The present study was conducted on the hypothesis that distance education can be a proper training method for coping with COVID-19 prevalence in the current outbreak. Reviewing the studies performed all around the world indicated the success of online education and supported this training method, even though there are some problems in the transition from face-to-face teaching methods to modern methods. Conclusions: In today’s world, education can be divided into before and after the COVID-19 outbreak. The importance of online education has become more apparent than ever before; therefore, it is essential to pay special attention to the appropriate infrastructures required for online learning in Iran’s education and the higher education system.

TL;DR: In this article, Almahasees et al. investigated the effectiveness, challenges, and advantages of online education in Jordan and found that both faculty and students agreed that online education is useful during the current pandemic and that blended learning would help in providing a rigorous learning environment.
Abstract: COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted teaching in a vriety of institutions. It has tested the readiness of academic institutions to deal with such abrupt crisis. Online learning has become the main method of instruction during the pandemic in Jordan. After 4 months of online education, two online surveys were distributed to investigate faculty’s and Students’ perception of the learning process that took place over that period of time with no face to face education. In this regard, the study aimed to identify both faculty’s and students’ perceptions of online learning, utilizing two surveys one distributed to 50 faculty members and another 280 students were selected randomly to explore the effectiveness, challenges, and advantages of online education in Jordan. The analysis showed that the common online platforms in Jordan were Zoom, Microsoft Teams offering online interactive classes, and WhatsApp in communication with students outside the class. The study found that both faculty and students agreed that online education is useful during the current pandemic. At the same time, its efficacy is less effective than face-to-face learning and teaching. Faculty and students indicated that online learning challenges lie in adapting to online education, especially for deaf and hard of hearing students, lack of interaction and motivation, technical and Internet issues, data privacy, and security. They also agreed on the advantages of online learning. The benefits were mainly self-learning, low costs, convenience, and flexibility. Even though online learning works as a temporary alternative due to COVID-19, it could not substitute face-to-face learning. The study recommends that blended learning would help in providing a rigorous learning environment. © Copyright © 2021 Almahasees, Mohsen and Amin.

TL;DR: Korkmaz et al. as discussed by the authors described negative experiences encountered by in-service K12 teachers in Turkey with respect to distance education practices applied urgently and compulsorily during the COVID-19 pandemic period.
Abstract: The aim of this study is to describe the negative experiences encountered by in-service K12 teachers in Turkey with respect to distance education practices applied urgently and compulsorily during the COVID-19 pandemic period. Analyses have been carried out on responses of teachers in order to determine the factors affecting them, so as to illustrate an example and to try to understand the impacts of decisions taken by the Turkish Ministry of National Education during the initial stages of the pandemic. The study follows a descriptive survey model and employs quota sampling based on the first level Nomenclature of Territorial Units for Statistics of Turkey. 1071 teachers participated in the study on a voluntary basis during the 30 March-1 June 2020 period by filling out a questionnaire form developed by the researchers. Quantitative and qualitative analyses of data were carried out via SPSS 24 and NVIVO 10 software, respectively. Findings indicate the most prominent problems reported by teachers are the lack of internet/device access by students as well as lack of experience of teachers with distance education. Analyses of problem frequency based on demographics have revealed that female teachers were more likely to suffer from the lack of IT skills. Teachers in the age group of 41+, who belong to generation X, also tend to experience more problems due to the lack of IT skills in comparison with their younger peers. Moreover, issues such as internet and infrastructure inadequacies experienced in rural regions, low participation rate of students in the online courses, indifference of parents, and failure of teachers to be sufficiently active in the system, were considered as problems by the teachers;and solution suggestions have been presented accordingly. © 2021, Ozgen Korkmaz. TL;DR: In this article, the influence of YouTube usage as an educational tool on the learning process of disabled people during the COVID-19 pandemic was investigated and the results revealed that there is a positive relationship between YouTube videos and e-learning among disable individuals.
Abstract: A record number of individuals are not attending educational institutions during the Covid-19 outbreak. This situation is highly thought-provoking, yet; the use of new media technology can overcome this challenge. In this regard, this chapter investigated the influence of YouTube usage as an educational tool on the learning process of disabled people during the COVID-19 pandemic. The researchers selected n = 60 individuals working as disability specialists and used structural equation modeling to examine the proposed study model. The results revealed that there is a positive relationship between YouTube videos and e-Learning among disable individuals. Moreover, the quality, ease of use, and texts in the video also contribute to improving the disabled people’s learning experiences. Thus, the results highly supported technology acceptance and usage during the global healthcare crisis. Moreover, the researchers also recommended evaluating other aspects of YouTube Videos that can influence people with disabilities about their social media usage, especially during an emergency like Covid-19.

Abstract: The rise of Covid-19 raised several concerns for the educational policymakers and stakeholders all over the world, including Pakistan. During the pandemic, institutional closure was the only solution to hamper the virus spread. However, the adoption of E-learning largely sustained educational activities, raises several questions about its effectiveness. This study examines E-learning acceptance during the Covid-19 outbreak in Pakistan. It employed cross-sectional design and a random sample of n = 314 students from Sahiwal Medical College, Sahiwal, Pakistan. The researcher further applied Media Dependency Theory to provide support to the conceptual model Theory. Findings indicated a strong significant relationship between students’ positive perceptions towards E-learning during Covid-19. Respondents considered E-learning as an effective substitute for the traditional learning environment, leading to improved academic performance. The implications of the study lean on the fact that using E-learning during in unforeseen times has not only highlighted the role of internet-based learning, but it has also demonstrated a greater dependence on new media technology. We suggest that, suggesting that E-learning is a potential solution to the problem of sustaining educational activities during institutional closure.
