Abstract: The invention discloses a cutter with a double pressure angle rack cutter profile and a method for machining a spur gear. The double pressure angle rack cutter profile comprises a top edge straight segment, a top edge arc segment, a transition inclined line segment and an inclined edge segment; the top edge straight segment is used for machining a root arc segment of a tooth profile; the top edgearc segment is used for machining a transition curve segment of the tooth profile; the inclined edge segment is used for machining an involute segment of the tooth profile; and the size of the top edge straight segment is determined by the conjugate relation with the gear root arc segment. The cutter with double pressure angle rack cutter profile developed by the invention is simple in structure and convenient to operate, by machining the spur gear with less teeth through the cutter with double pressure angle rack cutter profile, the root cutting phenomenon that a part of an involute tooth profile near the gear root is cut by a rack cutter can be avoided, and the problems that the bending resistance of the gear is decreased, and the contact ratio is lowered are avoided, so that the spur gear with less teeth is machined without root cutting.

The method comprises the steps: (1) determining a gear tooth profile enveloping scheme of a gear to be processed; (2) determining a gear rotation angle of a tangent point of a working tooth surface; (3) determining the positionof a working tooth surface processing cutter; (4) determining a tooth root transition curved surface cutter profile; (5) determining the position of a tooth root processing cutter; (6) planning a tooth surface machining tool path; and (7) determining a gear dividing processing scheme. The method has the following advantages and effects that a common end mill is adopted, and the narrow hollow fluted herringbone gear is finely machined through a four-shaft linkage machine tool single-side expansion method, so that the machining efficiency and precision are greatly improved; the two-section machining method of the tooth surface and the tooth root transition curved surface is adopted, so that the strength and the service life of the cutter are improved, and the complexity and the manufacturingdifficulty of the cutter are reduced.
