TLDR
The nanosponges offer unique advantage of controlled release and are biologically safe and biodegradable material, and could be used to improve the aqueous solubility of poorly water-soluble molecules, protect degradable substances and as innovative carrier in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, protein/peptide delivery, diagnostics, enzyme-catalysed reactions, environmental control and agrochemistry.

Role of Cyclodextrins in Nanoparticle-Based Drug Delivery Systems.

TL;DR: The various uses of CDs as it applies to NP-based drug carriers are discussed and how CDs enhance the characteristics of polymeric, magnetic, lipid, metallic, and mesoporous NPs are discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Facile preparation of self-assembled hydrogels constructed from poly-cyclodextrin and poly-adamantane as highly selective adsorbents for wastewater treatment.

TL;DR: The results demonstrated that the prepared supramolecular hydrogels possessed different mechanisms in the adsorption of the four typical poisonous organic dye molecules used, including bisphenol A (BPA), 4-aminoazobenzene (N-Azo), methylene blue (MB), and rhodamine B (RhB).
Journal ArticleDOI

Applications of cyclodextrins in food science. A review

TL;DR: Their metabolism and regulatory aspects of current applications of CDs are analysed: as carriers, for removing components, to produce or extract BaC, their use as nanosensors or in food packaging, and how inclusion complexes are formed are studied.
Journal ArticleDOI

Encapsulation of cinnamon oil in cyclodextrin nanosponges and their potential use for antimicrobial food packaging

TL;DR: Cinnamon essential oil, alone or encapsulated, had a bacteriostatic effect against all bacteria tested, with the exception of Y. enterocolitica where a bactericidal action was observed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Cyclodextrins in Drug Delivery Systems and Their Effects on Biological Barriers

TL;DR: The most important properties ofcyclodextrins and cyclodextrin-based drug delivery systems are summarized with special focus on their biological activity.

Experimental and computational approaches to estimate solubility and permeability in drug discovery and development settings

TL;DR: Experimental and computational approaches to estimate solubility and permeability in discovery and development settings are described in this article, where the rule of 5 is used to predict poor absorption or permeability when there are more than 5 H-bond donors, 10 Hbond acceptors, and the calculated Log P (CLogP) is greater than 5 (or MlogP > 415).
Journal ArticleDOI

Cyclodextrins and their pharmaceutical applications.

TL;DR: Cyclodextrins are still regarded as novel excipients of unexplored potential and, thus, 100 years after their discovery, new cyclodextrin-based technologies are constantly being developed.
Journal ArticleDOI

DNA-programmable nanoparticle crystallization

TL;DR: It is shown that the choice of DNA sequences attached to the nanoparticle building blocks, the DNA linking molecules and the absence or presence of a non-bonding single-base flexor can be adjusted so that gold nanoparticles assemble into micrometre-sized face-centred-cubic or body- Centred- cubic crystal structures.
Journal ArticleDOI

Pharmaceutical applications of cyclodextrins. III. Toxicological issues and safety evaluation

TL;DR: The objective of this review is to summarize recent findings on the safety profiles of three natural cyclodextrins (alpha, beta- and gamma-CDs) and several chemically modified CDs and their effects on cellular processes mediated by heparin binding growth factors.
