TL;DR: Height, base diameter, the number of branches, the number of pods, the size of ultimate fibres, leaf measurements, pod measurements, measurements of guard cells, number of full seeds per pod in case of autotriploid jute were noted and compared with diploid and autotetraploids jute.
Abstract: 1. Height, base diameter, the number of branches, the number of pods, size of ultimate fibres, leaf measurements, pod measurements, measurements of guard cells, number of full seeds per pod in case of autotriploid jute were noted and compared with diploid and autotetraploid jute. 2. Mean numbers of chromosome associations per p.m.c in 3 n jute show 2.48 univalents, 4.64 bivalents, 0.58 trivalents, 1.80 quadrivalents, 0.064 hexavalents and 0.064 fragments. Quadrivalents are noticed in the forms of ring and chain. Y-shaped trivalent is common. Chromosome numbers varied. 3. Laggards, occasional bridges due to stickiness, irregular segregation, late dividing bivalents etc. are noted. Elimination of chromatin bodies is observed. 4. Monads to octads with or without micronuclei are recorded. 5. Fertility percentage in 3 n (63.5%) is compared with 2 n and 4 n. Pollen diameters of 3 n is also compared with those of 2 n and 4 n.

TL;DR: The results show that the insertion/deletion polymorphism of ACE gene is not associated or linked with CHD in Chinese population.
Abstract: To investigate whether the insertion/deletion polymorphism of the human angiotensin I converting enzyme gene increased the risk of coronary heart disease (CHD) in CHD pedigrees, discordant sib pair analysis (DSP) and transmission/disequilibrium test (TDT) were used. Forty-five CHD pedigrees with at least one CHD patient in the first degree relatives of probands were recruited during Oct. 1998 to Feb. 1999, of which parental genotype known, one or both parental genotype missing was 21.2 and 22 respectively. ACE genotype was measured by PCR technique. Conditional Logistic regression was used to analyze the DSP, and TDT-STDT program 1.1 was used for TDT and STDT. Univariable conditional Logistic regression did not find significant difference of the distribution of three different ACE genotypes in the 106 discordant sib pairs obtained from the 45 pedigrees. After adjusting effects of traditional risk factors of CHD, no significant difference of the distribution was found by multiple Logistic regression model. Neither the TDT for 13 nuclear families or STDT (sib transmission/disequilibrium test) for 24 sibships showed significant difference between the transmitted and untransmitted ACE gene D allele distributions. Our results show that the insertion/deletion polymorphism of ACE gene is not associated or linked with CHD in Chinese population.

TL;DR: The multivalent configurations in the triploid and tetraploid Lycopersicum esculentum are of the types which would be expected, if they were determined by a random distribution of chiasmata, as they vary in frequency from cell to cell, but remain statistically constant at successive stages.
Abstract: 1. The multivalent configurations in the triploid and tetraploidLycopersicum esculentum are of the types which would be expected, if they were determined by a random distribution of chiasmata. 2. They vary in frequency from cell to cell, but remain statistically constant at successive stages, as they would be expected to do on this assumption. 3. The configurations (contrary to the opinion of previous authors, but as is expected on analogy with all other cases of chiasma pairing) are constant between diplotene and metaphase. 4. The metaphase chiasma frequency is highest in the diploid and lowest in the triploid. This is attributed to a similar difference in original chiasma frequency rather than to a greater reduction in number in the triploid during terminalisation. 5. The curve of variance is higher in the polyploids than in the diploids, as has previously been found inTulipa andHyacinthus. 6. The formation of trivalents and univalents in the triploid gives rise to irregularities in the second division, and to the formation of restitution nuclei. 7. The formation of quadrivalents in the tetraploid leads to numerical non-disjunction which is reflected in reduced fertility.
