Mechanical behavior of amorphous alloys

TL;DR: In this paper, a review of recent advances in understanding the mechanical behavior of metallic glasses, with particular emphasis on the deformation and fracture mechanisms, is presented, where the role of glass structure on mechanical properties, and conversely, the effect of deformation upon glass structure, are also described.

Metal Foams: A Design Guide

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a model for making metal foams characterisation methods and properties of metal foam, and a constitutive model for metal foam design for Creep with Metal Foams Sandwich Structures Energy Management: Packaging and Blast Protection Sound Absorption and Vibration Suppression Thermal Management and Heat Transfer Electrical Properties of metal Foams Cutting, Finishing and Joining Cost Estimation and Viability Case Studies Suppliers of Metal Foam Web Sites Index

Mechanisms controlling the durability of thermal barrier coatings

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present relationships between the durability, the governing material properties and salient morphological features of thermal barrier coatings and show that the failure is ultimately connected to the large residual compression in the thermally grown oxide through its roles in amplifying imperfections near the interface.
Journal ArticleDOI

Microstructural and mechanical characteristics of in situ metal matrix composites

TL;DR: In this paper, a review of the fabrication, microstructure and mechanical properties of in situ metal matrix composites reinforced with in situ ceramic phases is presented, with particular attention paid to the mechanisms responsible for the formation of the in situ reinforcements.
Journal ArticleDOI

The onset of twinning in metals: a constitutive description

TL;DR: In this article, a constitutive expression for the twinning stress in BCC metals is developed using dislocation emission from a source and the formation of pile-ups, as rate-controlling mechanism.
