TL;DR: In this paper, the details of the design and implementation of a narrow linewidth, wavelength-tunable and variable repetition-rate short pulse Q-switched fiber laser are discussed.
Abstract: The details of the design and implementation of a narrow linewidth, wavelength-tunable and variable repetition-rate short pulse Q-switched fiber laser are discussed. A traveling wave model is used in conjunction with Finite different time domain method to account for propagation delays, spatial distribution of powers and population densities in the laser. A tunable repetition rate and tunable wavelength laser is demonstrated experimentally, yielding pulses of peak power 7.1 W, width 212 ns (at 1533 nm) and a repetition rate of 10 kHz. The paper further discusses the simulation and experimental results of the characteristic features of tunable wavelength and tunable repetition rate pulsed laser.

TL;DR: In this article, the effect of wavelength filtering on pulse dynamics of a wavelength-tunable Erbium-doped fiber Q-switched laser in a ring configuration is investigated.
Abstract: We present a numerical simulation, validated by experimental analysis, of the effect of wavelength filtering on pulse dynamics of a wavelength-tunable Erbium-doped fiber Q-switched laser in a ring configuration. Travelling wave time-dependent model is implemented using finite difference time domain (FDTD) method to accurately simulate the population dynamics and the pulse evolution in the ring laser. Such a model is experimentally validated for a wavelength tunable Q-switched fiber laser and stable Q-switched pulses are obtained over a wavelength tuning range of ∼30 nm in the C-band.

TL;DR: In this article, a stable dual-wavelength Q-switched fiber laser for applications in differential absorption Lidar with tunability in absolute wavelength over several nanometers and discrete tuning in wavelength spacing from 1.1 to 3.3 nm was demonstrated.
Abstract: We demonstrate a stable dual-wavelength Q-switched fiber laser for applications in differential absorption Lidar with tunability in absolute wavelength over several nanometers and discrete tuning in wavelength spacing from 1.1 to 3.3 nm. Single longitudinal-mode operation is also achieved by employing Sagnac loop saturable absorber filter. The delayed self homodyne linewidth measurement of the dual-wavelength continuous-wave laser shows a very narrow spectral linewidth and frequency jitter (<40 kHz). The advantages of tunable wavelengths, narrow linewidth, temperature insensitivity, and high stability in an efficient, cost effective, rugged, compact and light system make it a promising technology for airborne Lidar systems.

TL;DR: In this paper, a single frequency, linear, all-fiber laser using fast stress-induced birefringence modulation was presented, achieving 25W peak power in 12-ns, 0.3-µJ pulses at a repetition rate of 80 kHz with 370 mW of pump power, without using an amplifier.
Abstract: We present a novel actively Q-switched single frequency, linear, all-fiber laser using fast stress-induced birefringence modulation. We demonstrate 25-W peak power in 12-ns, 0.3-µJ pulses at a repetition rate of 80 kHz with 370 mW of pump power, without using an amplifier. Very effective Q-switching was also observed at 325 kHz, near the resonance frequency of the piezoelectric actuator. Using a higher pump power of 780 mW, an average output power of 85 mW and pulsewidth of 16 ns at 325 kHz PRF was observed.

Abstract: We report the latest results obtained with an acousto-optically Q-switched Erbium3+:Ytterbium3+ diode pumped fibre laser. The use of Er:Yb enables short, high power pulses to be obtained. Pulse durations of 15 ns and peak powers exceeding 50 W have been achieved at 500Hz repetition rate.

TL;DR: A Q-switched erbium-doped fiber laser has been developed and configured to provide narrowband and broadband operation using an all-fibre optical switch for distributed fiber sensing based on the Landau-Placzek ratio as discussed by the authors.
Abstract: A Q-switched erbium-doped fibre laser has been developed and configured to provide narrowband and broadband operation using an all-fibre optical switch for distributed fibre sensing based on the Landau-Placzek ratio. Narrowband operation allows filtering of the Brillouin and Rayleigh signals and broadband operation minimises coherent Rayleigh noise.
