Journal ArticleDOI

Internal stresses and structures developed during creep

TL;DR: In this article, transmission electron microscopic observations showed that the density of dislocations within subgrains and the subgrain diameter vary with applied stress according to: ϱD∝σAK,D ∝ σA−0.8, where K=1.4 to 2.0.
Journal ArticleDOI

Strain‐Rate Dependence of the Tensile Failure of a Polycrystalline Material at Elevated Temperatures

TL;DR: In this article, a general discussion of the failure modes which can occur in uniaxial tensile tests of a polyphase, polycrystalline material at various strain rates at elevated temperatures is presented.
Journal ArticleDOI

A constant tensile stress creep testing machine

TL;DR: In this paper, a constant tensile stress creep testing machine is described, which makes it possible to keep the stress constant within 0.1% up to a strain 0.45, assuming the volume of the specimen does not change during the test.
Journal ArticleDOI

Bending shear: the rate-controlling mechanism for calving ice walls

TL;DR: In this article, the authors use bending shear to produce nearly vertical shear bands along which shear rupture occurs, along with the rate at which bending creep produces nearly vertical bands along with shear rupturing along these bands, controlling the calving rate in all environments.
