Abstract
During the past decade, design-based research has demonstrated its potential as a methodology suitable to both research and design of technology-enhanced learning environments (TELEs). In this paper, we define and identify characteristics of design-based research, describe the importance of design-based research for the development of TELEs, propose principles for implementing design-based research with TELEs, and discuss future challenges of using this methodology. Differentiating for Diversity: Using Universal Design for Learning in Elementary Computer Science Education

TL;DR: This paper presents how Universal Design for Learning was used to develop and refine a programming environment and curriculum for upper-elementary school classrooms (students aged 9-12), and presents accommodations and modifications to emphasize the ways the development environment and/or curriculum enabled such uses.

Mobile-Assisted Language Learning: Designing for Your Students.

TL;DR: This chapter reports on a design-based research (DBR) study seeking to enhance English as second language (ESL) students’ aural skills with help of mobile devices.

Integrating physical activity data technologies into elementary school classrooms

TL;DR: In this article, the authors describe an iteration of a design-based research project that involved integrating commercial physical activity data (PAD) sensors, such as heart rate monitors and pedometers, as technologies that could be used in two fifth grade classrooms.

Challenge of supporting vocational learning: Empowering collaboration in a scripted 3D game - How does teachers' real-time orchestration make a difference?

TL;DR: Students in settings with real-time teacher orchestration used more effort to provide knowledge and less effort for other inputs and teachers' professional competencies also helped to reduce off task discussions during the 3D game, develop a shared understanding of the tasks' inter-professional nature, and explain activities in a meaningful way.

Design Experiments: Theoretical and Methodological Challenges in Creating Complex Interventions in Classroom Settings

TL;DR: The lion's share of my current research program is devoted to the study of learning in the blooming, buzzing confusion of inner-city classrooms, and central to the enterprise is that the classroom must function smoothly as a learning environment before the authors can study anything other than the myriad possible ways that things can go wrong.

Participatory Action Research

TL;DR: Whyte as discussed by the authors discusses the role of the social scientist in participatory action research in agricultural research and development in the context of agricultural data collection and data sharing in the field of agricultural research.

Design Experiments in Educational Research

TL;DR: Design experiments have both a pragmatic bent and a theoretical orientation as mentioned in this paper, developing domain-specific theories by systematically studying those forms of learning and the means of supporting them, and the authors clarify what is involved in preparing for and carrying out a design experiment, and conduct a retrospective analysis of the extensive, longitudinal data sets generated during an experiment.
