Abstract
During the past decade, design-based research has demonstrated its potential as a methodology suitable to both research and design of technology-enhanced learning environments (TELEs). In this paper, we define and identify characteristics of design-based research, describe the importance of design-based research for the development of TELEs, propose principles for implementing design-based research with TELEs, and discuss future challenges of using this methodology. Linking theory to practice in learning technology research

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a case to reposition theory so that it plays a pivotal role in learning technology research and helps to build an ecology of learning and present a critique of current practice based on a review of articles published in two leading international journals from 2005 to 2010.

Facilitating Communities of Practice in Teacher Professional Development

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors describe a project for teacher professional development addressing the introduction of information and communication technology and problem and project-based approaches into teaching and learning at the university level.
Journal ArticleDOI

Puzzle Based Algorithm Learning for Cultivating Computational Thinking

TL;DR: The study suggests that puzzle based algorithm learning is worth as a learning model for improving CT of learners.

Phenomenological Methodologies in the Field of Educational Communications and Technology.

TL;DR: In this article, the philosophical and methodological variations of phenomenological research methods and their role in the field of educational communication and technology (ECT) are discussed, and the suitability of each approach is discussed.

Cognitive load of learner control: extraneous or germane load?

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigate the effect of learner control on cognitive load and whether the experienced load is related to learning outcomes, where half of the students had control over task selection, while the other half had not.

Design Experiments: Theoretical and Methodological Challenges in Creating Complex Interventions in Classroom Settings

TL;DR: The lion's share of my current research program is devoted to the study of learning in the blooming, buzzing confusion of inner-city classrooms, and central to the enterprise is that the classroom must function smoothly as a learning environment before the authors can study anything other than the myriad possible ways that things can go wrong.

Participatory Action Research

TL;DR: Whyte as discussed by the authors discusses the role of the social scientist in participatory action research in agricultural research and development in the context of agricultural data collection and data sharing in the field of agricultural research.

Design Experiments in Educational Research

TL;DR: Design experiments have both a pragmatic bent and a theoretical orientation as mentioned in this paper, developing domain-specific theories by systematically studying those forms of learning and the means of supporting them, and the authors clarify what is involved in preparing for and carrying out a design experiment, and conduct a retrospective analysis of the extensive, longitudinal data sets generated during an experiment.
