TL;DR: In this article, a polyacrylonitrile/amino-functionalized Zr-metal organic framework (PAN/AMino-Zr-MOF) nanofiber film was prepared by the electrospinning technique and evaluated as a new adsorbent for thin-film microextraction before analysis by corona discharge ion mobility spectrometry.
Abstract: In this study, a polyacrylonitrile/amino-functionalized Zr-metal organic framework (PAN/amino-Zr-MOF) nanofiber film was prepared by the electrospinning technique and evaluated as a new adsorbent for thin-film microextraction before analysis by corona discharge ion mobility spectrometry. Chlorpyrifos, an organophosphorus pesticide used to kill a number of insects and worms, was selected as a model compound for the investigation of this method. A thermal desorption chamber was used for the desorption of analyte from the thin film and its introduction into the corona discharge ion mobility spectrometer. The effects of various parameters, such as desorption temperature, stirring rate, extraction temperature, pH, salt effect and extraction time, on the extraction efficiency were studied. The limit of detection and limit of quantification of this method for chlorpyrifos were found to be 0.6 and 2.0 μg L−1, respectively, and the linear range was obtained to be 2.0–200 μg L−1. The repeatability and reproducibility of the method was less than 11%. This method was successfully employed for analyzing chlorpyrifos in agricultural wastewater and river water samples, and the recovery values for the spike samples were obtained in the range of 86–109%.

TL;DR: In this paper, a simple and efficient microwave-assisted preparation method for the fabrication of zirconium (IV) intercalated expanded graphite (Zr-EG) was proposed.
Abstract: Herein, we proposed a simple and efficient microwave-assisted preparation method for the fabrication of zirconium (IV) intercalated expanded graphite (Zr-EG). The synthetic approach could be completed in one step within 20 s, where KMnO4 was used as the oxidizing agent, H2SO4 and ZrOCl2 as the intercalating agents. The as-prepared Zr-EG exhibited thin multi-layered structure, plenty of small Zr-relevant particles and oxygenated groups in both layers and surface, which gave Zr-EG high absorption capability. Subsequently, the Zr-EG, as a new kind of solid-phase extraction absorbent, was applied to the separation, purification and enrichment of chlorpyrifos in honey samples, followed by high-performance liquid chromatography analysis. Under optimal extraction and analysis conditions, the detection limit was 100 ng g−1. The relative standard deviations ranged from 2.6 to 6.8%. At three spiked levels (1, 10, 100 μg g−1), the recoveries of chlorpyrifos were in the range of 86.1–92.2%. Comparison with other conventional solid-phase extraction adsorbents, modified EG showed rapid synthesis, layered modification flexibility, stable structure, large adsorption capacity and good selectivity, demonstrating great potential in pollutants separation and detection.

TL;DR: Chlorpyrifos is an organophosphorus compound that displays broad-spectrum insecticidal activity against a number of important arthropod pests and is employed in a wide variety of agricultural and specialty pest control scenarios.
Abstract: Chlorpyrifos is a member of the organophosphorus or organophosphate class of insecticides. This class has become one of the most widely used groups of pest control chemicals. In 1989 nearly 40% of the $6.2 billion global insecticide market was comprised of organophosphates (OPs) (Phillips and McDougall 1990). Although Clermont (1854) had first synthesized tetraethylpyrophosphate (TEPP), it was not until much later that the insecticidal properties of this OP were described (Schrader 1942). This milestone led to further synthetic work with insecticidal OPs and thus provided the impetus that would lead to the launch of an entirely new class of insecticides. Early OPs found to be efficacious for insect control and thus brought into widespread use included parathion (1944) and malathion (1952) (Matsumura 1985). These successes stimulated further discovery work on the part of synthetic chemists and entomologists within a number of research organizations.

TL;DR: In this paper, the potential application of microwave extraction for flavonoids and the advantage of microwave-assisted process over the other extraction processes generally employed for extraction are reviewed and compared. But, microwave extraction is one of the most advanced extraction methods, which has the potential of playing a major role in flavonoid extraction and analytical quantification.
Abstract: Flavonoids are major bioactive compounds known to be beneficial against many chronic diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular disorders, and inflammation. Food products obtained from plants are key sources of flavonoids for humans. However, during different food-processing steps, flavonoids are lost in remarkable amounts. Supplementation of flavonoids as a food additive will help in retaining the required health-beneficial amount of flavonoids in the diet, and extraction is an important step in the preparation of food additives. Microwave extraction is one of the most advanced extraction methods, which has the potential of playing a major role in flavonoid extraction and analytical quantification. The present paper reviews the potential application of microwave extraction for flavonoids and the advantage of microwave-assisted process over the other extraction processes generally employed for extraction.
