Determining a location relevant to a communication device

TL;DR: In this paper, a method for determining a location relevant to a user of a communication device is presented, which involves determining (310) general location information of the user and determining (320) a list of location parameters from the general location.
Abstract: A method (300) of determining a location relevant to a user of a communication device is provided. The method involves determining (310) general location information of the location relevant to the user and determining (320) a list of location parameters from the general location information. Specific location of the communication device is also determined (325). The location relevant to the user is then determined (335) by comparing the list of location parameters with the specific location information. Systems and programs for using the method are also provided.

TL;DR: In this article, a method for alerting a mobile device at a predetermined destination, in particular for transport applications, is presented. But this method is limited to a single mobile device and it is not suitable for a large number of mobile devices.
Abstract: A method for alerting a mobile device at a predetermined destination. The present invention concerns a method for alerting a mobile device at a predetermined destination, in particular for transport applications. A method for alerting a mobile device at a predetermined destination, said mobile device operating within a communication network, said method consisting in setting an geographic destination to an application server in said communication network, converting the geographic destination into a communication network coordinate system in association with a database, requesting regular location updates to a position determination entity of said communication network, sending a destination trigger event to said mobile device when said mobile device has reached said predetermined destination as determined by said position determination entity of said communication network.

TL;DR: In this paper, an assembly method for directory number selection with at least one specified property is presented, where the preselection is made depending on the actual mobile radio cell in which the mobile phone resides at the time.
Abstract: An assembly method in which during input of a directory number with at least one specified property, this directory number is enhanced by a preselection and suggested to the user or automatically selected, where the preselection is made depending on the actual mobile radio cell in which the mobile phone resides at the time. Independent claims are is given for the following: (1) (A) A mobile(cell) phone for carrying out the method. (2) (B) A network station for a mobile radio network.

TL;DR: In this article, a method and apparatus for determining the location of a mobile telephone within the serving area of a MBS system is presented, where the distance between the mobile telephone and a plurality of cell site antennas is calculated using a technique which reduces the error component of the calculated distances.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for determining the location of a mobile telephone within the serving area of a mobile telephone system. A mobile switching center analyzes the calling mobile telephone number and called telephone number to determine if a location function is required. Upon initiation of the location function by the mobile switching center, a mobile location module calculates a location estimate of the mobile telephone. The mobile location module receives a list of signal strengths received by the mobile telephone from cell site antennas within the serving area. The distance between the mobile telephone and a plurality of cell site antennas is calculated using a technique which reduces the error component of the calculated distances. These reduced error distances are used to geometrically determine an estimate of the location area. In addition, the mobile telephone comprises a GPS receiver/processor for sending the most recent GPS coordinates of the mobile telephone which are within a predetermined confidence level to the mobile location module. These GPS coordinates are compared with the calculated location area to increase the accuracy of the location determination.

TL;DR: In this paper, a map covering the control area and its periphery is stored based on the building and the destination building is searched based on both the destination and navigation request, and a plurality of voice direction messages are stored for directing the navigation.
Abstract: A name and a location of a building within a control area are correlated with a registered phone number. A map covering the control area and its periphery is stored based on the building. The destination building is searched based on the destination and navigation request. A plurality of voice direction messages are stored for directing the navigation. A plurality of question messages are stored for demanding the user to respond according to a predetermined format so as to specify the present location. When the navigation route extends over a plurality of control areas each controlled by a different base station, such information containing the destination, navigation request, present location and route is shared by those different base stations.

TL;DR: In this paper, a set of characteristics associated with the reception of a model signal (210) were calculated using ray-tracing techniques, where the model signal was transmitted from a selected location (162) to a receiver location (166).
Abstract: In a model of a wireless communication system service area (160), a set of characteristics associated with the reception of a model signal (210) are calculated (308), preferably using ray-tracing techniques, wherein the model signal (172) is transmitted from a selected location (162) to a receiver location (166). Next, a set of characteristics that describe a received signal at a receiver location in the wireless communication system service area are measured (316), wherein the receiver location corresponds to the receiver location in the model (160). Thereafter, a relationship between the calculated set of characteristics and the measured set of characteristics is determined (318), and the location of the subscriber unit that transmitted the received signal is estimated (320) in response to the relationship between the calculated set of characteristics and the measured set of characteristics.

TL;DR: In this article, a telecommunications system and method is disclosed for providing accurate country information to Mobile Stations (MSs) within a satellite network, where at the time of location update, the MS sends Global Positioning System (GPS) coordinates identifying the location of the MS to a serving Mobile Switching Center (MSC) via a satellite.
Abstract: A telecommunications system and method is disclosed for providing accurate country information to Mobile Stations (MSs) within a satellite network. At the time of location update, the MS sends Global Positioning System (GPS) coordinates identifying the location of the MS to a serving Mobile Switching Center (MSC) via a satellite. The MSC determines the identity of the current country that the MS is located in, and calculates the distance to the nearest country border. The current country identity and distance information are transmitted back to the MS via the satellite. Thereafter, the MS continues to calculate GPS coordinate information, and if the distance between the current location of the MS and the location of the MS at the time of the previous location update becomes equal to or greater than received distance information, a query is done to the MSC to determine the current country where the MS is located. If the country has changed, then the new country is displayed on the MS.
