Abstract: Semantic Grid is a type of grid in which resources, services, etc can be searched very easily and efficiently. It helps in finding the best possible match for the desired service or resource. In a Semantic Grid it is very necessary to have an ontology-based framework which can be used to discover most appropriate resource or service required. In this paper, an ontology-based framework is defined which can be used to discover the resources and the services depending upon the match. The framework will define the properties, the major concepts, their description and also the relationship between them in order to find the best possible match for the required resource or service. Also a B2B (Business to Business) marketplace will be used to explain its working more clearly and efficiently.

Abstract: An ontology-based product-recommender system can help catalog administrators in B2B marketplaces maintain up-to-date product databases by acquiring mapping information between the new product data and existing data. The proposed approach is keyword-based and independent of the underlying physical structure of product ontology. With a Bayesian belief network as its basis, the ranking algorithm utilizes semantics embedded within relationships defined in ontology to probabilistically determine the ranking scores. The methodology is implemented on a practical ontology system powerful enough to assist users in B2B marketplaces. Its effectiveness is demonstrated in comparison to the conventional search engines.

Abstract: A new class of data intensive applications has led to increased demand for cost-efficient resource sharing approaches. Yet, providing efficient access to widely distributed data for large numbers of users poses considerable challenges. Most existing Grid systems are centrally managed, thus hindering their scalable expansion. We introduce a new distributed, adaptive, and scalable middleware that provides transparent access to data in Data Grids. Our approach relies on dynamic techniques that adapt replica creation to continuously changing network connectivity and users' behavior. Results from simulations and deployment of our middleware show that our solution provides better data access performance than static approaches.

Abstract: In this paper, we propose a Core Grid Ontology (CGO) that defines fundamental Grid-specific concepts, and the relationships between them. One of the key goals is to make this Core Grid Ontology general enough and easily extensible to be used by different Grid architectures or Grid middleware, so that the CGO can provide a common basis for representing Grid knowledge about Grid systems, including Grid resources, Grid middleware, services, applications, and Grid users. The Core Grid Ontology is designed and developed based on a general model ofGrid infrastructures, and described in the Web Ontology Language OWL. Such an ontology can play an important role in building Gridrelated Knowledge bases and in supporting the realization of the Semantic Grid.

Abstract: The problem of service sharing in a Grid environment arises from the heterogeneity of ontologies. The discovery and description of Grid services based on the heterogeneous ontologies might give rise to misunderstanding of the contents. In order to reduce and ultimately to remove the misunderstanding, a domain-specific ontology should be shared among concerned parties, and the abilities of Grid services should be discovered and described based on that shared ontology. However, since the ontology evolves as time goes by, the shared ontology for the Grid services should have a flexible infrastructure that has an ability to reflect the changes in ontologies. This paper proposes a flexible ontology management approach for discovery and description of Grid service capabilities supporting ontology evolution whose goal is to enhance the interoperability among Grid services. In this approach, concepts and descriptions in an ontology are defined independently, and they are connected by relationships. In addition, the relationships are updated based on real-time evaluations of ontology users in order to flexibly support ontology evolution. A bottom-up ontology evolution means such environment that allows ontology users to evaluate impact factors of concepts in an ontology and that results of the evaluation are reflected to the modification of the ontology. The contribution of this paper is to suggest the ontology management framework that not only enables semantic discovery and description of a Grid service capability but also supports a bottom-up ontology evolution based on the users’ evaluations.
