Abstract
The hot working characteristics of 6061 Al/15%SiCp produced by stir casting are studied using processing maps. The maps, based on the dynamic materials model, were generated from the flow stress data obtained through hot compression tests conducted at strain rates and temperatures ranging from 0.0857 to 2.7 s−1 and 300 to 500 °C, respectively. From the experimental data the strain rate sensitivity (m), power dissipation efficiency (η) and instability parameter (ξ( e )) were computed and are plotted in the temperature-strain rate plane to obtain power dissipation and instability maps. The domains of dynamic recrystallization and wedge cracking are observed in the processing maps. Shear band formation and particle fracture were noticed at higher strain rates and lower temperature, thereby defining the flow instability domain.

Fabrication of nanostructure Al/SiCP composite by accumulative roll-bonding (ARB) process

TL;DR: In this paper, a new manufacturing process for Al-SiC P composites was developed by using bulk aluminum sheets and micron sized SiC particles as starting materials, and the results proved that by increasing ARB cycles the tensile strength of the produced composites increases, but their ductility at first decreases and then increases.

Hot deformation behaviour of 7075 alloy

TL;DR: In this paper, the hot deformation behavior of Stir cast 7075 alloy was studied using processing map technique and the map has been interpreted in terms of the microstructural processes occurring in situ with deformation, based on the values of a dimensionless parameter η which is an efficiency index of energy dissipation through micro-structural process.

Modeling of dynamic material behavior in hot deformation: Forging of Ti-6242

TL;DR: In this article, a new method of modeling material behavior which accounts for the dynamic metallurgical processes occurring during hot deformation is presented, which considers the workpiece as a dissipator of power in the total processing system and evaluates the dissipated power co-contentJ = ∫o σ e ⋅dσ from the constitutive equation relating the strain rate (e) to the flow stress (σ).

Dynamic recrystallization in nickel and nickel-iron alloys during high temperature deformation

TL;DR: In this paper, it is established from metallographic and flow stress observations that dynamic recrystallization occurs at strains greater than a critical value and results in a recrystized grain size which is determined entirely by the flow stress.

A nucleation criterion for dynamic recrystallization during hot working

TL;DR: In this paper, a criterion for the initiation of dynamic recrystallization during hot working is proposed based on the contention that the reduced driving force due to concurrent deformation modifies the normal energy balance which defines the conditions for nucleation of new grains.
