Abstract
This paper surveys current technology and research in the area of digital color imaging. In order to establish the background and lay down terminology, fundamental concepts of color perception and measurement are first presented us-ing vector-space notation and terminology. Present-day color recording and reproduction systems are reviewed along with the common mathematical models used for representing these devices. Algorithms for processing color images for display and communication are surveyed, and a forecast of research trends is attempted. An extensive bibliography is provided.

Studying That Smile

TL;DR: This article is based on an equation that models the multispectral acquisition of images and the main components of this equation correspond to the lighting conditions, the filters, the sensor sensitivity, and associated noise sources.

Color error-diffusion halftoning

TL;DR: The design principles of color error diffusion that differentiate it from grayscale error diffusion are discussed, focusing oncolor error diffusion halftoning systems using the red, green, and blue (RGB) space for convenience.

Color Sparse Representations for Image Processing: Review, Models, and Prospects

TL;DR: It is shown that the scalar quaternionic linear model is equivalent to constrained matrix-based color filtering, which highlights the filtering implicitly applied through this model.

Colour displays for categorical images

TL;DR: In this paper, a method for identifying a set of colours for displaying 2D and 3D categorical images when the categories are unordered labels is proposed, where the principle is to find maximally distinct sets of colours.

Single-sensor camera image compression

TL;DR: Extensive experimentation reported in this paper indicates that pipelines which employ a JPEG 2000 coding scheme achieve significant performance improvements compared to similar processing pipelines equipped with a JPEG coder.

Some methods for classification and analysis of multivariate observations

TL;DR: The k-means algorithm as mentioned in this paper partitions an N-dimensional population into k sets on the basis of a sample, which is a generalization of the ordinary sample mean, and it is shown to give partitions which are reasonably efficient in the sense of within-class variance.

Least squares quantization in PCM

TL;DR: In this article, the authors derived necessary conditions for any finite number of quanta and associated quantization intervals of an optimum finite quantization scheme to achieve minimum average quantization noise power.

An Algorithm for Vector Quantizer Design

TL;DR: An efficient and intuitive algorithm is presented for the design of vector quantizers based either on a known probabilistic model or on a long training sequence of data.

Vector Quantization and Signal Compression

TL;DR: The author explains the design and implementation of the Levinson-Durbin Algorithm, which automates the very labor-intensive and therefore time-heavy and expensive process of designing and implementing a Quantizer.
