Abstract
This paper surveys current technology and research in the area of digital color imaging. In order to establish the background and lay down terminology, fundamental concepts of color perception and measurement are first presented us-ing vector-space notation and terminology. Present-day color recording and reproduction systems are reviewed along with the common mathematical models used for representing these devices. Algorithms for processing color images for display and communication are surveyed, and a forecast of research trends is attempted. An extensive bibliography is provided.

Color text extraction from camera-based images: the impact of the choice of the clustering distance

TL;DR: It is shown that the main problem is not in the choice of color spaces for generic text extraction but in the decision of clustering distances to handle alt degradations present in this kind of images.

Color targets: fiducials to help visually impaired people find their way by camera phone

TL;DR: An important contribution of this paper is a principled method for optimizing the design of the color targets and the color target detection algorithm based on training data, instead of relying on heuristic choices as in the previous work.

Single-sensor imaging in consumer digital cameras: a survey of recent advances and future directions

TL;DR: The most distinctive elements of a single-sensor imaging pipeline, such as color filter array configurations, image interpolation solutions, and picture storage approaches are reviewed and commented upon.

Color illumination models for image matching and indexing

TL;DR: In this paper, a set of color invariants for image matching and indexing is presented, along with a small abstract about photometry and cameras, which allows one to justify the choice of a color representation system.

Some methods for classification and analysis of multivariate observations

TL;DR: The k-means algorithm as mentioned in this paper partitions an N-dimensional population into k sets on the basis of a sample, which is a generalization of the ordinary sample mean, and it is shown to give partitions which are reasonably efficient in the sense of within-class variance.

Least squares quantization in PCM

TL;DR: In this article, the authors derived necessary conditions for any finite number of quanta and associated quantization intervals of an optimum finite quantization scheme to achieve minimum average quantization noise power.

An Algorithm for Vector Quantizer Design

TL;DR: An efficient and intuitive algorithm is presented for the design of vector quantizers based either on a known probabilistic model or on a long training sequence of data.

Vector Quantization and Signal Compression

TL;DR: The author explains the design and implementation of the Levinson-Durbin Algorithm, which automates the very labor-intensive and therefore time-heavy and expensive process of designing and implementing a Quantizer.

Lightness and Retinex Theory

TL;DR: The mathematics of a lightness scheme that generates lightness numbers, the biologic correlate of reflectance, independent of the flux from objects is described.
