TL;DR: In this tutorial, the utility of a fuzzy system is demonstrated by providing a broad overview, emphasizing analog mode hardware, along with a discussion of the author's original work.
Abstract: In this tutorial, the utility of a fuzzy system is demonstrated by providing a broad overview, emphasizing analog mode hardware, along with a discussion of the author's original work. First, the difference between deterministic words and fuzzy words is explained as well as fuzzy logic. The description of the system using mathematical equations, linguistic rules, or parameter distributions (e.g., neural networks) is discussed. Fuzzy inference and defuzzification algorithms are presented, and their hardware implementation is discussed. The fuzzy logic controller was used to stabilize a glass with wine balanced on a finger and a mouse moving around a plate on the tip of an inverted pendulum. >

TL;DR: A new variable-structure (switching) method for the prevention of proportional-integral-derivative controller integrator windup in both continuous and discrete-time implementations is proposed.
Abstract: In this paper, the authors propose a new variable-structure (switching) method for the prevention of proportional-integral-derivative controller integrator windup in both continuous and discrete-time implementations. The method is easily implemented and tuned by practicing engineers. This new method is compared with several existing methods for the prevention of integrator windup.

TL;DR: In this article, a linear dynamic system theory-based approach is proposed for the diagnosis of structural damage, where only response (acceleration) signals are involved, with response at one location chosen as the "input" of the model.

TL;DR: In this paper, the design, integration and operation of a unique E-jet printing platform is discussed, where the uniqueness lies in the ability to utilize multiple materials in the same overall printhead, enabling increased degrees of heterogeneous integration of different functionalities on a single substrate.
Abstract: Electrohydrodynamic jet (E-jet) printing has emerged as a high-resolution alternative to other forms of direct solution-based fabrication approaches, such as ink-jet printing This paper discusses the design, integration and operation of a unique E-jet printing platform The uniqueness lies in the ability to utilize multiple materials in the same overall print-head, thereby enabling increased degrees of heterogeneous integration of different functionalities on a single substrate By utilizing multiple individual print-heads, with a carrousel indexing among them, increased material flexibility is achieved The hardware design and system operation for a relatively inexpensive system are developed and presented Crossover interconnects and multiple fluorescent tagged proteins, demonstrating printed electronics and biological sensing applications, respectively

TL;DR: In this article, several improvements to the cross-correlation method of system identification are proposed that aim to further improve the accuracy of the frequency response identification, particularly at high frequencies near the desired closed-loop bandwidth frequency.
Abstract: Recent progress in the identification of switching power converters using an all-digital controller has granted network analyzer functionality to the control platform. In particular, the cross-correlation technique provides a nonparametric identification of a converter's small-signal control-to-output frequency response. The literature shows the viability of this technique as well as a few improvements to the basic technique. This online network analyzer functionality allows new flexibility in the areas of online monitoring and adaptive control. In this paper, several improvements to the cross-correlation method of system identification are proposed that aim to further improve the accuracy of the frequency response identification, particularly at high frequencies near the desired closed-loop bandwidth frequency. Additionally, an extension to the cross-correlation method is proposed that allows measurement of the control loop gain without ever opening the feedback loop. Thus, performance and stability margins may be evaluated while maintaining tight regulation of the output. Simulation and experimental results are shown to verify the proposed improvements and extension.
