TLDR
Kinetic analysis indicates that TPA can substitute for diacylglycerol and greatly increases the affinity of the enzyme for Ca2+ as well as for phospholipid, and various phorbol derivatives which have been shown to be active in tumor promotion are also capable of activating this protein kinase in in vitro systems.

The role of protein kinase C in cell surface signal transduction and tumour promotion

TL;DR: Protein kinase C probably serves as a receptor for the tumour promoters and further exploration of the roles of this enzyme may provide clues for understanding the mechanism of cell growth and differentiation.
Journal ArticleDOI

Inositol trisphosphate, a novel second messenger in cellular signal transduction.

TL;DR: Diacylglycerol operates within the plane of the membrane to activate protein kinase C, whereas inositol trisphosphate is released into the cytoplasm to function as a second messenger for mobilizing intracellular calcium.

Studies and perspectives of protein kinase C

Yasutomi Nishizuka
- 18 Jul 1986 -
TL;DR: A novel role of this protein kinase system seems to give a logical basis for clarifying the biochemical mechanism of signal transduction, and to add a new dimension essential to the understanding of cell-to-cell communication.

Stimulation of 3T3 cells induces transcription of the c- fos proto-oncogene

TL;DR: Transcription of the c-fos proto-oncogene is greatly increased within minutes of administering purified growth factors to quiescent 3T3 cells, and this stimulation is the most rapid transcriptional response to peptide growth factors yet described, implying a role for c- fos in cell-cycle control.

Cleavage of Structural Proteins during the Assembly of the Head of Bacteriophage T4

TL;DR: Using an improved method of gel electrophoresis, many hitherto unknown proteins have been found in bacteriophage T4 and some of these have been identified with specific gene products.

A simple method for the isolation and purification of total lipides from animal tissues.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors described a simplified version of the method and reported the results of a study of its application to different tissues, including the efficiency of the washing procedure in terms of the removal from tissue lipides of some non-lipide substances of special biochemical interest.
Journal ArticleDOI

A rapid method of total lipid extraction and purification.

TL;DR: The lipid decomposition studies in frozen fish have led to the development of a simple and rapid method for the extraction and purification of lipids from biological materials that has been applied to fish muscle and may easily be adapted to use with other tissues.
