Abstract
The Scale-Invariant Feature Transform (or SIFT) algorithm is a highly robust method to extract and consequently match distinctive invariant features from images. These features can then be used to reliably match objects in diering images. The algorithm was rst proposed by Lowe [12] and further developed to increase performance resulting in the classic paper [13] that served as foundation for SIFT which has played an important role in robotic and machine vision in the past decade.

Indoor localization and visualization using a human-operated backpack system

TL;DR: This work develops scan matching based algorithms to localize the backpack in complex indoor environments such as a T-shaped corridor intersection, a staircase, and two indoor hallways from two separate floors connected by a staircase.

Video event recognition using concept attributes

TL;DR: This work proposes to use action, scene and object concepts as semantic attributes for classification of video events in InTheWild content, such as YouTube videos, and shows how the proposed enhanced event model can further improve the zero-shot learning.

Video Analysis in Pan-Tilt-Zoom Camera Networks

TL;DR: This tutorial presents cooperative localization and tracking methods, i.e., multiagentand consensus-based approaches to jointly compute the target's properties such as ground-plane position and velocity and discusses implementation aspects for these video processing techniques on embedded smart cameras, with a special focus on data access properties.

Efficient Framework for Palm Tree Detection in UAV Images

TL;DR: This paper uses the Scale-invariant Feature Transform technology for the automatic detection of palm trees and proposes to merge these keypoints with an active contour method based on level sets (LSs) to distinguish palm trees from other vegetations.

A Combined Corner and Edge Detector

TL;DR: The problem the authors are addressing in Alvey Project MMI149 is that of using computer vision to understand the unconstrained 3D world, in which the viewed scenes will in general contain too wide a diversity of objects for topdown recognition techniques to work.

A performance evaluation of local descriptors

TL;DR: It is observed that the ranking of the descriptors is mostly independent of the interest region detector and that the SIFT-based descriptors perform best and Moments and steerable filters show the best performance among the low dimensional descriptors.
