The Scale-Invariant Feature Transform (or SIFT) algorithm is a highly robust method to extract and consequently match distinctive invariant features from images. These features can then be used to reliably match objects in diering images. The algorithm was rst proposed by Lowe [12] and further developed to increase performance resulting in the classic paper [13] that served as foundation for SIFT which has played an important role in robotic and machine vision in the past decade.read more

Making specific features less discriminative to improve point-based 3D object recognition
TL;DR: A framework that retains ambiguity in feature matching to increase the performance of 3D object recognition systems is presented and vector quantize and match model features in a hierarchical manner to preserve ambiguity during matching.

Large-scale web video event classification by use of Fisher Vectors

TL;DR: This work follows the approach of constructing fixed length feature vectors from local feature descriptors for classification using an SVM, and studies the utility of Fisher Vector representation in improving results compared to the conventional Bag-of-Words (BoW) approach.

A Coarse to Fine Minutiae-Based Latent Palmprint Matching

TL;DR: The proposed palmprint matching algorithm has been evaluated on a latent-to-full palmprint database consisting of 446 latents and 12,489 background full prints and shows a rank-1 identification accuracy of 79.4 percent, which is significantly higher than the 60.8 percent identified accuracy of a state-of-the-art latent palm print matching algorithm on the same latent database.

Cross-media semantic representation via bi-directional learning to rank
TL;DR: This paper proposes a general cross-media ranking algorithm to optimize the bi-directional listwise ranking loss with a latent space embedding, which it is called Bi- Directional Cross-Media Semantic Representation Model (Bi-CMSRM).

A Combined Corner and Edge Detector
Chris Harris,Mike Stephens +1 more
TL;DR: The problem the authors are addressing in Alvey Project MMI149 is that of using computer vision to understand the unconstrained 3D world, in which the viewed scenes will in general contain too wide a diversity of objects for topdown recognition techniques to work.

A performance evaluation of local descriptors
TL;DR: It is observed that the ranking of the descriptors is mostly independent of the interest region detector and that the SIFT-based descriptors perform best and Moments and steerable filters show the best performance among the low dimensional descriptors.
