The Scale-Invariant Feature Transform (or SIFT) algorithm is a highly robust method to extract and consequently match distinctive invariant features from images. These features can then be used to reliably match objects in diering images. The algorithm was rst proposed by Lowe [12] and further developed to increase performance resulting in the classic paper [13] that served as foundation for SIFT which has played an important role in robotic and machine vision in the past decade.read more

Pyramid of Spatial Relatons for Scene-Level Land Use Classification
Shizhi Chen,Yingli Tian +1 more
TL;DR: This work proposes a pyramid-of-spatial-relatons (PSR) model, a novel concept of spatial relation to describe relative spatial relationship of a group of local features that is robust to translation and rotation variations and demonstrates excellent performance for the application of remotely sensed land use classification.

Dense 3D face alignment from 2D videos in real-time
TL;DR: A 3D cascade regression approach in which facial landmarks remain invariant across pose over a range of approximately 60 degrees is developed, which strongly support the validity of real-time, 3D registration and reconstruction from 2D video.

Global Motion Estimation from Point Matches
TL;DR: This paper recovers camera motion as a sequence of two global optimizations using pair wise Essential Matrices to recover the global rotations by applying robust optimization using either spectral or semi definite programming relaxations.

Discriminative features for texture description
TL;DR: A feature extraction method for texture description is developed which can be integrated with existing LBP variants such as conventional LBP, rotation invariant patterns, local patterns with anisotropic structure, completed local binary pattern (CLBP) and local ternary pattern (LTP) to derive new image features for texture classification.

A Combined Corner and Edge Detector
Chris Harris,Mike Stephens +1 more
TL;DR: The problem the authors are addressing in Alvey Project MMI149 is that of using computer vision to understand the unconstrained 3D world, in which the viewed scenes will in general contain too wide a diversity of objects for topdown recognition techniques to work.

A performance evaluation of local descriptors
TL;DR: It is observed that the ranking of the descriptors is mostly independent of the interest region detector and that the SIFT-based descriptors perform best and Moments and steerable filters show the best performance among the low dimensional descriptors.
