TLDR
A peak in the real part of the sub-band-gap conductivity {sigma}{sub 1} similar to the coherence peak expected in an {ital s}-wave BCS superconductor is observed.
Abstract
We measure directly both the real and imaginary parts of the sub-band-gap conductivity \ensuremath{\sigma} in ${\mathrm{YBa}}_{2}$${\mathrm{Cu}}_{3}$${\mathrm{O}}_{7}$ in the 15--80 ${\mathrm{cm}}^{\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}1}$ frequency range using coherent time-domain terahertz spectroscopy. We observe a peak in the real part ${\mathrm{\ensuremath{\sigma}}}_{1}$ similar to the coherence peak expected in an s-wave BCS superconductor. The absence of such a peak in NMR relaxation-rate experiments suggests that its origin lies in a strongly temperature-dependent inelastic-scattering rate rather in coherence factors.

Coupled ocean–atmosphere dynamics in the Indian Ocean during 1997–98

TL;DR: It is concluded that the 1997–98 anomalies—in spite of the coincidence with the strong El Niño/Southern Oscillation event—may primarily be an expression of internal dynamics, rather than a direct response to external influences.

Velocity matching by pulse front tilting for large area THz-pulse generation.

TL;DR: A generally applicable velocity matching method for THz-pulse generation by optical rectification in the range below the phonon frequency of the nonlinear material is proposed and advantages in comparison to the electro-optic Cherenkov effect and non-collinear beam mixing are discussed.

Electrodynamics of high- T c superconductors

TL;DR: In this article, a review of the electromagnetic response of high-Tc superconductors using terahertz, infrared, and optical spectroscopies is presented, with an emphasis on conceptual issues, including evolution of the electronic spectral weight in doped Mott-Hubbard insulators, the d-wave superconducting energy gap and the normal-state pseudogap, anisotropic superfluid response, electronic phase segregation, emergence of coherent electronic state as a function of both temperature and doping, the vortex state, and the energetics of the super

Pulsed terahertz tomography

TL;DR: In this paper, the phase and amplitude of a terahertz time-domain spectroscopy (THz-TDS) pulse at each frequency can be determined by using a digital holography method.
