TL;DR: In this article, a conceptual model for low-temperature combustion (LTC) diesel engines is proposed, which describes spray formation, vaporization, mixing, ignition, and pollutant formation and destruction mechanisms that are consistent with experimental observations and modeling predictions.

TL;DR: In this paper, a compression ignition engine can be reduced by getting combustion to occur at low temperatures and by delaying the heat release till after the combustion stage, which can reduce oxides of nitrogen (NOx) and smoke in compression ignition engines.
Abstract: Oxides of nitrogen (NOx) and smoke can be simultaneously reduced in compression ignition engines by getting combustion to occur at low temperatures and by delaying the heat release till after the ...

TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of two-stage injection on combustion and emission characteristics under high EGR (46%) condition were experimentally investigated, and the results showed that blending gasoline or/and n-butanol in diesel improves smoke emissions while induces increase in maximum pressure rise rate (MPRR).

TL;DR: In this article, the nature of active thermo-atmosphere combustion (ATAC) is discussed by spectroscopic observation to determine why the ATAC (under favorable condition) produces very low cyclic irregularity and low NO emission.
Abstract: Homogeneous charge compression ignition (HCCI)combustion requires high EGR rate and high intake temperature. HCCI combustion has not yet been made to operate at conditions other than low speed and low load in a four-stroke engine. Two stroke engine, however, have produced reasonable power in the HCCI combustion or active thermo-atmosphere combustion (ATAC) mode. In this paper, the nature of ATAC is discussed by spectroscopic observation to determine why the ATAC (under favorable condition) produces very low cyclic irregularity and low NO emission. ATAC low heat rejection engine and ATAC with alternative fuels are discussed.
