Emperical Computation of Solar Radiation and Determination of Regression Coefficients for Khulna City

TL;DR: In this paper, the global, diffuse and direct solar radiation empirically on a horizontal surface for the divisional district "Khulna" in Bangladesh (latitude 22o47΄N and longitude 89o34΄E) as well as predict correlations for it by using several meteorological data for 32 years between 1980 and 2012.
Abstract: This study is accomplished to calculate global, diffuse and direct solar radiation empirically on a horizontal surface for the divisional district “Khulna” in Bangladesh (latitude 22o47΄N and longitude 89o34΄E) as well as to predict correlations for it by using several meteorological data for 32 years between 1980 and 2012. The global radiation is found to be maximum in the month of April and minimum in the month of December here. The estimated values of the Angstrom’s regression constants a and b are 0.2388 and 0.5228 respectively. The other regression constants were also computed and the correlations proposed for Khulna can be used in future for the estimation of global, diffuse and direct solar radiation if the meteorological parameters remain available.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the solar radiation prediction in Kuala Terengganu, Malaysia and developed and tested Genetic Programming Techniques (GP) models to predict solar radiation.
Abstract: The solar radiation prediction in Kuala Terengganu located in Terengganu, Malaysia was investigated in this study to improve the solar system design. Solar radiation data and number of parameters such as solar radiation, temperature, humidity, wind speed and sunshine hours were obtained from Malaysian Meteorological Malaysia MMD. In order to predict the solar radiation, Genetic Programming Techniques (GP) models were develop and tested. Two scenarios were considered in this study in order to validate the efficiency of the proposed model. Coefficients of determination (R2) for the solar radiation during training and testing phases were ranged between 0.99402 to 0.98934 for all months of the year. This study confirms the ability of GP to predict solar radiation values precisely and accurately. The predictions from the GP models could enable scientists to locate and design solar energy systems in Malaysia.

TL;DR: In this paper, a simple and more flexible model is introduced based on the input data of bright sunshine hours, relative humidity and maximum temperature, for the prediction of available global solar radiation on a horizontal surface.
Abstract: Estimation of solar radiation is considered as the most important parameter for the design and development of various solar energy systems. But, the availability of the required data is very scarce and often not readily accessible. The foremost objective of the present study was to evaluate the various models for the estimation of monthly average global solar radiation from bright sunshine hours and other meteorological parameters at four locations namely Sri Aman, Sibu, Bintulu and Limbang in the Sarawak State. For this purpose, six different solar radiation models, such as Angstrom, Glover, Tasdemirglu, Bahel, Hargreaves and Sayigh, have been investigated. The computed values are compared and assessed, but no relationships of results were found among selected models and with measured values of the nearest location. Hence, a simple and more flexible model is introduced based on the input data of bright sunshine hours, relative humidity and maximum temperature, for the prediction of available global solar radiation on a horizontal surface. The required data for the suggested model is usually available in the most meteorological sites. The proposed model demonstrated acceptable results, and statistically displayed lower RMSE and MBE as compared to the examined models. It could be a good estimator for predicting the global solar radiation in coastal and humid areas.

TL;DR: In this paper, a modified Angstrom model was selected to estimate mean monthly global solar radiation for Tehran (35.68°N, 51.32°E), and a good agreement was observed between the measured and the predicted values.
Abstract: Monthly average daily global solar radiation data are essential in the design and study of solar energy conversion devices. In this regard, modified Angstrom model was selected to estimate mean monthly global solar radiation for Tehran (35.68°N, 51.32°E). The results were compared with measured data. A good agreement (greater than 90%) was observed between the measured and the predicted values. This model is extremely recommended to estimate monthly average daily global solar radiation for Tehran and in elsewhere with similar climatic conditions where the radiation data is missing or unavailable. The results can also be used for elsewhere with similar climatic conditions that the radiation data is missing or unavailable. In addition, the values of monthly average and hourly clearness indices were determined during 2003 and 2009. Hourly solar radiation data required for solar energy system design and performance studies are generally not available for a number of sites especially in remote locations. Scientists have developed several methods to achieve hourly radiation using different input parameters. The Collares-Pereira and Rabl model has been used in this paper to predict hourly global solar radiation for the average day of each month. Three components of hourly solar radiation include beam, diffuse and ground reflected radiation were determined on surfaces tracking the sun.

TL;DR: In this article, a brief overview of renewable energy technologies suited to stand alone power generation is provided, in practice this means wind turbines and photovoltaics (PV) as these can be used in diverse locations, and to a lesser extent micro-hydro which is more site specific and bio-energy although this last one may not be effective at the smaller scales mostly involved.

TL;DR: In this article, the Liu and Jordon model was used to estimate the hourly global, diffuse and direct solar radiations for horizontal surfaces and the total daily solar radiation on inclined and vertical surfaces in the region of Sfax, Tunisia.
Abstract: This paper has been made to estimate the solar radiation on horizontal and inclined surfaces in Sfax, Tunisia. The model developed in this communication can be used to estimate the hourly global, diffuse and direct solar radiations for horizontal surfaces and the total daily solar radiation on inclined and vertical surfaces in the region of Sfax. Moreover, the method presented here can be used to evaluate the energy production in Sfax of photovoltaic projects like water pumping solar, on-grid applications and off-grid applications. The estimation method of the hourly and daily solar radiations used the Liu and Jordon model. In addition, the values of monthly of average daily solar radiation on a horizontal surface are taken from NASA, Surface meteorology and Solar Energy. The mounting position of solar panel is assumed to be facing towards the south of Sfax. The present results are comparable with results of the PVGIS (Photovoltaic Geographical Information System).
