Study design All fifty-eight patients (17% male, 83% female) who finished their treatment in the Centre of Vigevano of our Institute were included. Mean Cobb angle at the start of treatment was 22.6 ± 10.6 degrees (see Table 1), and mean age was 13.4 ± 2.4 years. Treatment groups considered included exercises, bracing+exercises, cast+exercises. Starting Cobb degrees, by groups, were: 11–20, 21–30, 31–40, over 40 degrees (see Table 2).read more

Parent,Manuel Rigo,Michele Romano,Luke Stikeleather,James H Wynne,Fabio Zaina +21 more
TL;DR: The 2016 SOSORT guidelines were developed based on the current evidence on CTIS and include a total of 68 recommendations divided into following topics: bracing, PSSE to prevent scoliosis progression during growth, other conservative treatments, respiratory function and exercises and assessment.

2011 SOSORT guidelines: Orthopaedic and Rehabilitation treatment of idiopathic scoliosis during growth

Rivard,Michele Romano,James H Wynne,Monica Villagrasa,Hans-Rudolf Weiss,Fabio Zaina +19 more
TL;DR: These Guidelines have been a big effort of SOSORT to paint the actual situation of CTIS, starting from the evidence, and filling all the gray areas using a scientific method, and it is possible to understand the lack of research in general on CTIS.

Specific exercises performed in the period of brace weaning can avoid loss of correction in Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis (AIS) patients: Winner of SOSORT's 2008 Award for Best Clinical Paper.
Fabio Zaina,Stefano Negrini,Salvatore Atanasio,Claudia Fusco,Michele Romano,Alessandra Negrini +5 more
TL;DR: Exercises can help reduce the correction loss in brace weaning for AIS, and comparing single groups, OTH (with respect to DIS) had a significant difference (P < 0.05).

Approach to scoliosis changed due to causes other than evidence: patients call for conservative (rehabilitation) experts to join in team orthopedic surgeons.
TL;DR: The results seem to confirm the initial hypothesis: the interest of the AIS treatment community has shifted toward fusion whereas research has increased, while conservative treatment is suffering a decrease in professional interest (and diminished research).

The Sforzesco brace and SPoRT concept: a brace to replace cast in worst curves.
TL;DR: The Sforzesco brace showed to be more effective than the Lyon brace and as effective as the Risser cast on different clinical and radiological outcome measures in 2 different prospective study of best clinical practice.
