Substantial Changes and Their Impact on Mobility: A Typology and an Overview of the Literature

TL;DR: In this article, the authors propose a typology of substantial changes and their impact on mobility and discuss the impacts on future mobility of potential substantial changes, including the rapid emergence of affordable air travel, the oil crises, and profound ICT developments.

The desire to acquire: forecasting the evolution of household energy services

Steven Groves
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed a method to reduce energy consumption by increasing efficiency and showed that increasing efficiency may not necessarily reduce the overall energy consumption, but rather may increase the number of energy-using devices.
Journal ArticleDOI

Extent of inertia caused by the existing building stock against an energy transition in the Netherlands

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a preliminary study that aims to demonstrate the importance of the existing housing stock, and the inertia it can cause against an energy transition, and evaluate policy options such as increasing efficiency standards for new constructions and increasing the turnover rate of existing stock.

Delay‐induced rebounds in CO2 emissions and critical time‐scales to meet global warming targets

TL;DR: In this paper, a model of the human energy-climate system capable of reproducing past punctuated dynamics is presented, which shows that rebound in global CO 2 emissions emerge due to delays intrinsic to the diffusion of innovations.

Economics and consumer behavior

TL;DR: Deaton and Muellbauer as mentioned in this paper introduced generations of students to the economic theory of consumer behaviour and used it in applied econometrics, including consumer index numbers, household characteristics, demand, and household welfare comparisons.
Journal ArticleDOI

Technology, Prices, and the Derived Demand for Energy

TL;DR: In this article, an industrial demand for energy is essentially a derived demand: the firm's demand for the energy is an input, derived from demand for a firm's output, which is an output.
Journal ArticleDOI

Individual Discount Rates and the Purchase and Utilization of Energy-Using Durables

TL;DR: In this article, a model of individual behavior in the purchase and utilization of energy-using durables is presented, where the tradeoff between capital costs for more energy efficient appliances and operating costs for the appliances is emphasized.
Journal ArticleDOI

Economic Implications of Mandated Efficiency in Standards for Household Appliances

TL;DR: In this article, the authors argue that the indiscriminate use of mandated standards will backfire, but a mix of selective standards and reliance on prices as a restraint can be effective.

Qualitative Choice Analysis: Theory, Econometrics, and an Application to Automobile Demand

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a detailed study of automobile demand and use, presenting forecasts based on the powerful new techniques of qualitative choice analysis and standard regression techniques, which are combined to analyze situations that neither alone can accurately forecast.
