Energy efficiency optimization for proposed high speed trains in India

Abstract: Indian Railways have identified specific corridors for High-Speed Railway connectivity which will entail energy efficient designs. Low energy consumption at increased speeds requires a new train concept and design altogether. This study first identifies a viable track using ArcG and the Mumbai-Ahmedabad sector is chosen. This is followed by an Autodesk EcotectTM analysis to optimize day-lighting and thermal comfort levels within an energy efficient cabin.

Abstract: Passenger rail systems consume a large amount of electrical energy. This paper introduces a technical scheme of the auxiliary supply of a passenger train based on energy storage and Photo-Voltaic (PV), energy will be injected into the power supply unit (PSU) of the train by this system. This paper classifies the renewable energy consumption levels, understanding the technical requirements and application situation of South Africa passenger trains and the Auxiiary Power System (APU) on board including details about its strucure, Maximum-Power Point (MPPT) tracking algorithm, energy management and stability control strategy of the system. There should be sufficient evaluation of the power generation capacity, with analysis of the system efficiency. The proposed system design can be used in any passenger train, within the electrified section as well as the general railway. The benefits of operating solar coaches is projected as well as methods for controlling environmental pollution and mitigating climate change. The green energy from the PV panel will incorporate battery backup and generation augmentation. Important parameters are the ambient temperature, incident solar radiation, voltage, current and daily yield. The energy management function is complemented by the appropriate control strategy.
