TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed a method to use the ερμηνεύσσει ενδιαφέροντα σχετικά με ένα κεντρικό / πρχαϊκή περιφερει ακυμε το πώς οι λατρεί

TL;DR: The early history of Naples is traced, from prehistory to the eve of the Samnite Wars, in this paper, where the authors present a fresh interpretation of the motives and events underlying the Greek foundation of the earliest mainland colony on the Bay of Naples, Parthenope, the subsequent founding of Neapolis nearby, and the arrival of the Athenians at Neapolis in the mid-fifth century BCE.
Abstract: The early history of Naples is traced, from prehistory to the eve of the Samnite Wars. Founded on recent archaeological discoveries and a close reading of the texts documenting the city's founding, this chapter presents a fresh interpretation of the motives and events underlying the Greek foundation of the earliest mainland colony on the Bay of Naples, Parthenope, the subsequent founding of Neapolis nearby, and the arrival of the Athenians at Neapolis in the mid-fifth century BCE. The Samnite invasion of the 420s BCE, and its influence over the subsequent development and ethnic identity of Neapolis, is also considered.

TL;DR: This article examined how ethnic difference is understood in the Hippocratic treatise Airs, Waters, Places (as well as the rest of the fifth-century Hippocratic corpus) and Herodotus' Histories, which together represent the new ethnographic thought of the 5th century.
Abstract: This thesis looks to re-evaluate the East Greek intellectual view of non-Greeks in the middle to late fifth century. To do this I examine how ethnic difference is understood in the Hippocratic treatise Airs, Waters, Places (as well as the rest of the fifth-century Hippocratic corpus) and Herodotus' Histories, which together represent the new ethnographic thought of the fifth century. I will argue that neither author understood there to be any essential difference between Greeks and non-Greeks, nor represented nonGreeks as anti-Greeks, as many scholars today hold. Furthermore, I will argue that the idea of a Greek/barbarian dichotomy was to a considerable extent a construction of Athenian ideology, which stood in contrast to an East Greek cosmopolitanism that understood ethnic difference not in terms of differences in nature but of cultural variation within a common human condition.

TL;DR: Bourdieu as mentioned in this paper develops a theory of practice which is simultaneously a critique of the methods and postures of social science and a general account of how human action should be understood.
Abstract: Outline of a Theory of Practice is recognized as a major theoretical text on the foundations of anthropology and sociology. Pierre Bourdieu, a distinguished French anthropologist, develops a theory of practice which is simultaneously a critique of the methods and postures of social science and a general account of how human action should be understood. With his central concept of the habitus, the principle which negotiates between objective structures and practices, Bourdieu is able to transcend the dichotomies which have shaped theoretical thinking about the social world. The author draws on his fieldwork in Kabylia (Algeria) to illustrate his theoretical propositions. With detailed study of matrimonial strategies and the role of rite and myth, he analyses the dialectical process of the 'incorporation of structures' and the objectification of habitus, whereby social formations tend to reproduce themselves. A rigorous consistent materialist approach lays the foundations for a theory of symbolic capital and, through analysis of the different modes of domination, a theory of symbolic power.

TL;DR: Sian Jones as mentioned in this paper argues for a fundamentally different view of ethnicity, as a complex dynamic form of identification, requiring radical changes in archaeological analysis and interpretation, and presents a comprehensive and critical synthesis of recent theories of ethnicity in the human sciences.
Abstract: The question of ethnicity is highly controversial in contemporary archaeology. Indigenous and nationalist claims to territory, often rely on reconstructions of the past based on the traditional identification of 'cultures' from archaeological remains. Sian Jones responds to the need for a reassessment of the ways in which social groups are identified in the archaeological record, with a comprehensive and critical synthesis of recent theories of ethnicity in the human sciences. In doing so, she argues for a fundamentally different view of ethnicity, as a complex dynamic form of identification, requiring radical changes in archaeological analysis and interpretation.
