TLDR
In this paper, it was found that 8-mercaptoquinoline (MQ) can form very compact and even self-assembled monolayer (SAM) on polycrystalline gold electrode surface.
Abstract
It was found out that 8-mercaptoquinoline (MQ) could form very compact and even self-assembled monolayer (SAM) on polycrystalline gold electrode surface, which can exist for several days without changing its electrochemical properties. The SAMs of 8-mercaptoquinoline selectively catalyzed the reduction of Ga3+, In3+ and Cr6+ while blocked the electrochemical reaction of other metal ions on the electrode surface. It was also found out that the SAMs of 8-mercaptoquinoline selectively catalyzed the oxidation of NADH, uric acid and ascorbic acid.

TL;DR: Monolayers of alkanethiolates on gold are probably the most studied SAMs to date and offer the needed design flexibility, both at the individual molecular and at the material levels, and offer a vehicle for investigation of specific interactions at interfaces, and of the effect of increasing molecular complexity on the structure and stability of two-dimensional assemblies.

TL;DR: Surface plasmon resonance studies showed that His-tagged proteins adsorbed on the NTA-SAM retained a greater ability to participate in binding interactions with proteins in solution than protein immobilized in a thin dextran gel layer by covalent coupling.
