FGF signaling also appears to play a role in tumor growth and angiogenesis, and autocrine FGF signaling may be particularly important in the progression of steroid hormone-dependent cancers to a hormone-independent state.Abstract:
Fibroblast growth factors (FGFs) are small polypeptide growth factors, all of whom share in common certain structural characteristics, and most of whom bind heparin avidly. Many FGFs contain signal peptides for secretion and are secreted into the extracellular environment, where theycan bind to the heparan-like glycosaminoglycans (HLGAGs) of the extracellular matrix (ECM). From this reservoir, FGFs mayact directlyon target cells, or theycan be released through digestion of the ECM or the activityof a carrier protein, a secreted FGF binding protein. FGFs bind specific receptor tyrosine kinases in the context of HLGAGs and this binding induces receptor dimerization and activation, ultimatelyresulting in the activation of various signal transduction cascades. Some FGFs are potent angiogenic factors and most playimportant roles in embry onic development and wound healing. FGF signaling also appears to playa role in tumor growth and angiogenesis, and autocrine FGF signaling maybe particularlyimportant in the progression of steroid hormone-dependent cancers to a hormone-independent state.read more

FGF16 Promotes Invasive Behavior of SKOV-3 Ovarian Cancer Cells through Activation of Mitogen-activated Protein Kinase (MAPK) Signaling Pathway
TL;DR: The findings indicate that FGF16 in conjunction with Wnt pathway contributes to the cancer phenotype of ovarian cells and suggests that modulation of its expression in ovarian cells might be a promising therapeutic strategy for the treatment of invasive ovarian cancers.

FGFR4 transmembrane domain polymorphism and cancer risk: A meta-analysis including 8555 subjects
TL;DR: The meta-analysis suggests that the FGFR4 Gly388Arg polymorphism most likely contributes to susceptibility to cancer, especially in Asians and the Arg(388) allele might be associated with increased risks of breast and prostate cancer.

Embryonic testis cord formation and mesonephric cell migration requires the phosphotidylinositol 3-kinase signaling pathway
TL;DR: Combined observations demonstrate that the PI3K signaling pathway is involved in embryonic testis cord formation and mesonephros cell migration and the interference of cell migration is the cause for the inhibition of cord formation.

TL;DR: A positive feedback loop is discovered, in which the activation of p38 and AKT downstream from the altered FGFR3 upregulate MYC mRNA levels and stabilizes MYC protein, respectively, leading to the accumulation of MYC, which directly upregulatesFGFR3 expression by binding to active enhancers upstream from FGFR 3.
