The invention discloses a fingerprint image segmentation method based on ridge lines. The fingerprint image segmentation method comprises the following steps: separating fingerprint characteristics, detecting the ridge lines, calculating the density and direction consistency of the ridge lines and segmenting fingerprint regions. For images of various qualities, especially incomplete fingerprint images, a new means which combines the density and direction consistency of the ridge lines is used for recognizing and segmenting the fingerprint regions, so that the segmentation efficiency and the segmentation accuracy of the incomplete fingerprint images can be effectively improved.read more
