Generalized analytical expression for dynamic active thrust from c–φ soil backfills

TL;DR: In this paper, an explicit analytical expression for the critical inclination of the failure plane within the soil backfill is also presented for torsion in rigid retaining walls, considering the most field parameters related to the wall geometry, soil backfills, and loadings, such as wall height, wall backfill face inclination, backfill slope angle, tension cracks, wall friction, wall-backfill adhesion, cohesion and angle of shearing resistance of backfill, surcharge, and both the horizontal and the vertical seismic loadings.
Journal ArticleDOI

The tempio della consolazione in todi: integrated geomatictechniques for a monument description including structuraldamage evolution in time

TL;DR: The Tempio della Consolazione in Todi (16th cent.) as discussed by the authors has been analyzed using GPS-GNSS, laser scanning and digital photogrammetry for an accurate 3D reconstruction of geometry and attitude.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effect of geogrid reinforcement on flexible pavements

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the effectiveness of geogrids in flexible pavement reinforcement and found that the optimum position of the geogrid reinforcement to reduce tensile stresses was found to be directly underneath the asphalt concrete (AC) layer, then within 33-50% of the granular base layer height as measured from the bottom of the base layer.
Journal ArticleDOI

Pullout capacity of a reinforced soil in drained and undrained conditions

TL;DR: In this article, a finite element model is built to analyse the pullout capacity of a stiff inclusion embedded in a soil matrix under both drained and undrained conditions, and the influence of several parameters, including soil/reinforcement friction and vertical stress, on the pull out capacity of clean and silty sands reinforced with a steel strip is investigated.

Deformations and damage to buildings adjacent to deep excavations in soft soils

M. Korff
TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a survey of the literature related to the impact of deep excavation on buildings and assess the response of buildings to excavation-induced deformation. But the authors focus on typical Dutch conditions.
