A method predicting pumping-induced ground settlement using back-analysis and its application in the Karla region of Greece

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors derived a simplified equation and corresponding methodology which predicts ground subsidence in terms of water table history, based primarily on data of past subsidence, and validated this equation based on a state-of-the-art proposed model predicting one-dimensional ground subsiding induced by water level lowering in planar regions.
Journal ArticleDOI

Experimental Evaluation of Bearing Capacity of Skirted Footings

TL;DR: In this article, the effects of skirt stiffness and depth on the bearing capacity of skirted footing models were investigated, and it was found that using structural skirts may improve the footing bearing capacity up to 3.68 times depending on the geometry and structural specifications of the skirts and footings, soil characteristics and conditions of both soil-skirt and soil footing interfaces.

Dynamic soil structure interaction model for beams on viscoelastic foundations subjected to oscillatory and moving loads

TL;DR: In this paper, a dynamic analysis of Euler-Bernoulli beams resting on multi-layered viscoelastic soil is presented, where the governing differential equations for beam and soil displacements are obtained using the extended Hamilton's principle, and these equations are solved using one-dimensional finite element method and analytical solutions.

Application of GRID computing for optimization of grillages

TL;DR: This global optimization problem of pile placement schemes under grillage-type foundations is solved here using the simulated annealing algorithm which proved to be one of the most promising algorithms for grillage optimization.

Finite element analysis of deep excavation problems

Chang-Yu Ou
TL;DR: In this article, the authors presented the commonly used constitutive soil models suitable for the analysis of deep excavation problems where the input parameters can be derived from the basic soil properties in the effective stress drained and undrained analyses.
