Predicted and measured behaviour of a test embankment on Ballina clay

TL;DR: In this article, a test embankment was established on the soft Ballina clay and practising engineers and academics were invited to make predictions of the behaviour of the embankments.
Journal ArticleDOI

Relative performance of lime stabilized amended clay liners in different pore fluids

TL;DR: In this paper, the suitability of different types of locally available materials for their potential use as liners for waste containment facilities was evaluated from the viewpoint of liner application, and the relative efficiency of the selected materials with selected pore fluids was compared.

GIS- Interpolated Geotechnical Zonation Maps in Surfers Paradise, Australia

TL;DR: In this article, the Spatial Analyst extension in ArcMap10 has been employed to develop zonation maps for different depths in the study area, each depth level has been interpolated as a surface to create zonations for the Standard Penetration Test SPT-N value of the soil for each depth.
Journal ArticleDOI

Lateral-Load Response of a Reinforced Concrete Bridge

TL;DR: In this paper, cyclic, transverse loads were applied to the bents of a three-span reinforced concrete bridge, and the results showed that the bridge's high stiffness was attributed to its continuous superstructure and stiff abutments which resisted approximately 80% of the applied load.
Journal ArticleDOI

Monitoring system for execution control applied to a steel arch footbridge

TL;DR: In this article, a dedicated monitoring system, including strain gauges and thermal sensors, was implemented to monitor critical cross sections during both the construction process and in-service of a 275-metre long footbridge.
