TL;DR: In this paper, the modulus of elasticity of a very dense glacial till deposit located in central Maine has been determined by in situ plate load tests and the results of these tests are presented and the values of modulus-of elasticity evaluated.

TL;DR: The diaphragm walls are a type of retaining structure used in the excavation process as discussed by the authors and to determine it design, it is essential to take in mind the change of stresses and strains in each of the stages of the construction process.
Abstract: The diaphragm walls are a type of retaining structure used in the excavation process. To determine it design, is essential to take in mind the change of stresses and strains in each of the stages of the construction process. At present, continue to use analytics methodologies for the assessment of horizontal stresses generated by the ground towards the structure, however have several limitations which have great influence on the results, establishing conditions little closer to actual behavior. Therefore, implementation of the constitutive models in a finite element program may be the best option to simulate step by step construction.
