TLDR
Different patterns of elution for grey and white matter extracts were found and the implications are discussed in relation to the chemical and physicochemical characteristics of the different proteolipids and to the receptor properties shown by some of them in grey matter.

Proteolipids from membrane systems

TL;DR: Proteolipids are general tissue constituents usually associated with membranous structures and that, in addition to their unusual solubility properties, they are characterized by resistance to most proteolytic enzymes and by a pattern of amino acid composition that may vary according to the source of the proteolipid but retains throughout the group some special characteristics.

Stereospecific binding of narcotics to brain cerebrosides

TL;DR: Cerebrosides were shown to bind etorphine and naloxone stereo-specifically with high affinity and similarities between cerebroside sulfate and a purified opiate receptor from mouse brain which has been reported to be a proteolipid are indicated.
Journal ArticleDOI

Partial Purification of an Opiate Receptor from Mouse Brain

TL;DR: A proteolipid isolated from a lipid extract of mouse brain demonstrates stereospecific binding properties for levorphanol, present only in neuronal tissue and most abundant in the rhombencephalon.

Subcellular distribution and chemical nature of the receptor for 5-hydroxytryptamine in the central nervous system.

TL;DR: Several experiments with thin layer and column chromatography suggest that in the organic phase the [14C]5‐HT is not bound to the lipids but to a special proteolipid, different from that found in myelin and has similar chromatographic properties to that previously observed in the proteolIPid.

Rapid purification of proteolipids from rat brain subcellular fractions by chromatography on a lipophilic dextran gel.

TL;DR: Proteolipids from adult rat brain subcellular fractions were purified by a one-step procedure involving chromatography through Sephadex LH-60 eluted with an acidified chloroform-methanol mixture, indicating that the proteolipid apoproteins purified by this method do not adsorb hydrophobic low-molecular-weight compounds.

Protein Measurement with the Folin Phenol Reagent

TL;DR: Procedures are described for measuring protein in solution or after precipitation with acids or other agents, and for the determination of as little as 0.2 gamma of protein.
Journal ArticleDOI

A simple method for the isolation and purification of total lipides from animal tissues.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors described a simplified version of the method and reported the results of a study of its application to different tissues, including the efficiency of the washing procedure in terms of the removal from tissue lipides of some non-lipide substances of special biochemical interest.

A new color reaction for the quantitation of serum cholesterol.

TL;DR: The serum total and free cholesterol levels of 200 blood donors measured with the new color reaction were found to agree well with normal values reported by others and validates its use for either clinical or research purposes.
