Abstract
Broadband wireless access systems deployed in residential and business environments are likely to face hostile radio propagation environments, with multipath delay spread extending over tens or hundreds of bit intervals. Orthogonal frequency-division multiplex (OFDM) is a recognized multicarrier solution to combat the effects of such multipath conditions. This article surveys frequency domain equalization (FDE) applied to single-carrier (SC) modulation solutions. SC radio modems with frequency domain equalization have similar performance, efficiency, and low signal processing complexity advantages as OFDM, and in addition are less sensitive than OFDM to RF impairments such as power amplifier nonlinearities. We discuss similarities and differences of SC and OFDM systems and coexistence possibilities, and present examples of SC-FDE performance capabilities.

On the second-order cyclostationarity for joint signal detection and classification in cognitive radio systems

TL;DR: This paper proposes a joint detection and classification algorithm for single-carrier linearly digitally modulated, cyclically prefixed SCLD, and orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) signals, which does not require estimation of signal and noise powers, symbol timing, and carrier and waveform recovery.

Performance evaluation of Low-PAPR transmit filter for single-carrier transmission

TL;DR: This paper focuses on the transmit filter aiming to reduce PAPR by employing the minimization of variance of instantaneous transmit power and a combination of an FDE and spectrum combining at the receiver, which inherits additional frequency diversity gain, and therefore improves error probability.

A Novel Space-Frequency Block Coding Scheme for SC-FDMA

TL;DR: A modified scheme of SFBC compatible with SC-FDMA is proposed, based on the groups rather than the symbols which remains the same signal distribution as the equivalent SC transmission, and has good PAPR and Bit Block Error Rate on frequency selective MIMO channels.
