Abstract
Broadband wireless access systems deployed in residential and business environments are likely to face hostile radio propagation environments, with multipath delay spread extending over tens or hundreds of bit intervals. Orthogonal frequency-division multiplex (OFDM) is a recognized multicarrier solution to combat the effects of such multipath conditions. This article surveys frequency domain equalization (FDE) applied to single-carrier (SC) modulation solutions. SC radio modems with frequency domain equalization have similar performance, efficiency, and low signal processing complexity advantages as OFDM, and in addition are less sensitive than OFDM to RF impairments such as power amplifier nonlinearities. We discuss similarities and differences of SC and OFDM systems and coexistence possibilities, and present examples of SC-FDE performance capabilities.

Frequency Domain Adaptive Antenna Array for Broadband Single-Carrier Uplink Transmission

TL;DR: The structure of FDAAA receiver is discussed and the frequency domain signal-to-interference-plus-noise-ratio (SINR) after weight control is investigated, and it is shown that the optimal FDAAA weight to obtain the best BER performance is that which fully cancels the interference when single-cell system is considered.

Bit rate comparison of adaptive OFDM and cyclic prefixed single-carrier with DFE

TL;DR: It is analytically demonstrated that, for all signal to noise ratio values, OFDM achieves a bit rate greater than or equal to that of DFE-CPSC, independently of whether uniform or optimal power allocation is considered.

11-Gbps Broadband Modem-Agnostic Line-of-Sight MIMO Over the Range of 13 km

TL;DR: A modem-agnostic Line-of-Sight (LoS) MIMO system that can be retrofitted to any kind of single-input-single-output (SISO) digital modems to further increase spectral efficiency and data- rate and shows that two of the enabling technologies for broadband analog M IMO processing over several GHz bandwidth are precise signal delay compensation using continuously tunable delay line and operating analog MIMo equalization at high RF intermediate frequency.
