Abstract
Broadband wireless access systems deployed in residential and business environments are likely to face hostile radio propagation environments, with multipath delay spread extending over tens or hundreds of bit intervals. Orthogonal frequency-division multiplex (OFDM) is a recognized multicarrier solution to combat the effects of such multipath conditions. This article surveys frequency domain equalization (FDE) applied to single-carrier (SC) modulation solutions. SC radio modems with frequency domain equalization have similar performance, efficiency, and low signal processing complexity advantages as OFDM, and in addition are less sensitive than OFDM to RF impairments such as power amplifier nonlinearities. We discuss similarities and differences of SC and OFDM systems and coexistence possibilities, and present examples of SC-FDE performance capabilities.

An interference alignment based precoder design using channel statistics for OFDM systems with insufficient cyclic prefix

TL;DR: An interference alignment (IA) based precoder design for OFDM with insufficient cyclic prefix (CP) when only the statistics of channel coefficients is known at the transmitter is proposed, which minimizes the MSE in a linear MMSE receiver and therefore improves the BER performance.

Single-Carrier Frequency-Domain Equalization With Hybrid Decision Feedback Equalizer for Hammerstein Channels Containing Nonlinear Transmit Amplifier

TL;DR: A nonlinear hybrid decision feedback equalizer (NHDFE) for single-carrier block transmission systems with nonlinear transmit high power amplifier (HPA) is proposed, which significantly outperforms the authors' previous nonlinear SC frequency-domain equalization (NFDE) design.

Optimal pilot superimposition for zero-padded block transmissions

TL;DR: This paper develops an optimal pilot superimposition scheme for zero-padded single-carrier transmissions and proves that the optimal pilot sequence should contain only asingle non-zero pilot symbol, and this single non- zero pilot symbol must be placed within the guard interval depending on the channel power profile.

Overlap QRM-ML Block Signal Detection for Single-Carrier Transmission without CP Insertion

TL;DR: An overlap QRM-MLBD which requires no CP insertion is proposed which can be suppressed by overlapping consecutive observation windows and picking up only the reliable part after the block signal detection.

Design of optimum physical layer architecture for a high data rate LTE uplink transceiver

TL;DR: The main objective of this paper is to design optimum physical layer architecture of a high data rate LTE uplink transceiver using SC-FDMA multiple access scheme with error correction mechanism using Low dense parity check codes (LDPC) to provide lesser Bit Error Rate (BER) and avoiding packet loss by Interleaving.

Analysis and Simulation of a Digital Mobile Channel Using Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing

TL;DR: The analysis and simulation of a technique for combating the effects of multipath propagation and cochannel interference on a narrow-band digital mobile channel using the discrete Fourier transform to orthogonally frequency multiplex many narrow subchannels, each signaling at a very low rate, into one high-rate channel is discussed.

BER sensitivity of OFDM systems to carrier frequency offset and Wiener phase noise

TL;DR: In this contribution the transmission of M-PSK and M-QAM modulated orthogonal frequency division multiplexed (OFDM) signals over an additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel is considered and the degradation of the bit error rate is evaluated.
