This article surveys frequency domain equalization (FDE) applied to single-carrier (SC) modulation solutions and discusses similarities and differences of SC and OFDM systems and coexistence possibilities, and presents examples of SC-FDE performance capabilities.Abstract:
Broadband wireless access systems deployed in residential and business environments are likely to face hostile radio propagation environments, with multipath delay spread extending over tens or hundreds of bit intervals. Orthogonal frequency-division multiplex (OFDM) is a recognized multicarrier solution to combat the effects of such multipath conditions. This article surveys frequency domain equalization (FDE) applied to single-carrier (SC) modulation solutions. SC radio modems with frequency domain equalization have similar performance, efficiency, and low signal processing complexity advantages as OFDM, and in addition are less sensitive than OFDM to RF impairments such as power amplifier nonlinearities. We discuss similarities and differences of SC and OFDM systems and coexistence possibilities, and present examples of SC-FDE performance capabilities.read more

Hybrid domain block equalizer
TL;DR: In this paper, a method and device for iterative hybrid time-frequency domain block equalization of signals received via a communication channel subject to multipath interference is presented. But this method is not suitable for multi-path interference with long delay spread.

Iterative frequency domain channel estimation for dft-precoded ofdm systems using in-band pilots
TL;DR: An iterative frequency domain decision-directed interference cancellation technique to reduce the intersymbol interference level of SC signals with FDSPT pilots (resulting from the suppression of data tones).

Design of cyclic delay diversity for single carrier cyclic prefix (SCCP) transmissions with block-iterative GDFE (BI-GDFE) receiver
TL;DR: This paper proposes to apply cyclic delay diversity (CDD) to a SCCP system so that the possible performance improvement by using a BI-GDFE detector can be enhanced and proposes a scheme to determine the optimal delay parameter for CDD.

Low-complexity iterative method of equalization for single carrier with cyclic prefix in doubly selective channels
TL;DR: A time-domain low-complexity iterative algorithm to compensate for the effects of time selectivity of the channel that exploits the sparsity present in the channel convolution matrix is proposed.

Incremental iris recognition: A single-algorithm serial fusion strategy to optimize time complexity
TL;DR: This work is the first to present an incremental approach to iris recognition that combines concentration of information in the first bits of an iris-code with early rejection of unlikely matches during matching stage to incrementally determine the best-matching candidate in the gallery.

Analysis and Simulation of a Digital Mobile Channel Using Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing
TL;DR: The analysis and simulation of a technique for combating the effects of multipath propagation and cochannel interference on a narrow-band digital mobile channel using the discrete Fourier transform to orthogonally frequency multiplex many narrow subchannels, each signaling at a very low rate, into one high-rate channel is discussed.

BER sensitivity of OFDM systems to carrier frequency offset and Wiener phase noise
TL;DR: In this contribution the transmission of M-PSK and M-QAM modulated orthogonal frequency division multiplexed (OFDM) signals over an additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel is considered and the degradation of the bit error rate is evaluated.
