Abstract
Broadband wireless access systems deployed in residential and business environments are likely to face hostile radio propagation environments, with multipath delay spread extending over tens or hundreds of bit intervals. Orthogonal frequency-division multiplex (OFDM) is a recognized multicarrier solution to combat the effects of such multipath conditions. This article surveys frequency domain equalization (FDE) applied to single-carrier (SC) modulation solutions. SC radio modems with frequency domain equalization have similar performance, efficiency, and low signal processing complexity advantages as OFDM, and in addition are less sensitive than OFDM to RF impairments such as power amplifier nonlinearities. We discuss similarities and differences of SC and OFDM systems and coexistence possibilities, and present examples of SC-FDE performance capabilities.

Long Term Development of Air Interfaces: Is It CDMA or OFDM?

TL;DR: Looking into the future to predict the ICT and define the long term research objectives to make it come true is a necessary and also exciting exercise, but it must be based on a clear understanding of the current development path, relieved from myths and misconceptions.

Performance comparisons of localized and distributed transmissions using iterative decision-directed channel estimation in DFT-precoded OFDMA

TL;DR: This paper proposes distributed transmission with affinity to resource block (RB) based resource assignment in order to gain the frequency diversity effect for DFT-precoded OFDMA in a frequency-selective fading channel and applies iterative decision-directed channel estimation to the RB based distributed transmission to decrease the channel estimation error.

Performance Evaluation of Joint MLD with Channel Coding Information for Control Signals Using Cyclic Shift CDMA and Block Spread CDMA

TL;DR: Joint maximum likelihood detection using channel coding information for orthogonal code division multiple access (CDMA) to decrease the required average received signal-tonoise power ratio (SNR) satisfying the target block error rate (BLER), and investigates the effect of joint MLD from the conventional coherent detection associated with channel coding.

A Robust Channel Estimation for SCFDMA System

TL;DR: In this article, a robust technique for a single carrier frequency division multiple access system (CDMA) channel estimation in flat-fading non-Gaussian channels is proposed, and a new M-estimator is proposed for the robustification of the proposed detector.
