Abstract
The results of several geotechnical studies performed for the Gulf of Suez Petroleum Company (GUPCO) in their Gulf of Suez July field are presented here. Soils at the site primarily consist of weak to moderately cemented carbonate sands and silts (carbonate content in excess of 90 percent). Pullout test results for 24-inch diameter pipe piles in this deposit illustrate that the current state-of-the-art practice in predicting soil pile response of driven pipe piles in calcareous deposits is not adequate. This study identifies the important geotechnical parameters and recommendations are provided to improve predictive capability in similar foundation environments.

Pile Capacity in Calcareous Sands: State if the Art

TL;DR: A review of the published literature pertaining to driven and drilled and grouted piles in calcareous sands is presented in this paper, which concludes that pile capacities for driven piles are not only low but have a high variability.

Reliability of fixed offshore jacket platform against earthquake collapse

TL;DR: In this article, an approach for the reliability assessment of a fixed offshore jacket platform against earthquake collapse is presented, where the platform is modelled using a nonlinear finite-element model taking into account the effect of pile-soil interaction.

Full-scale load testing of two large-diameter drilled shafts in coral-reef limestone formations

TL;DR: In this article, the results of bi-direction O-cell testing on one 3.2m diameter and one 1.5m diameter drilled shaft before and after grouting in coral-reef limestone formations were presented.

Model experimental research on uplift single pile in calcareous sand of South China Sea

TL;DR: In this paper, vertical uplift static loading tests of single model pile were conducted in the in-lab calcareous sand and quartz sand by emulating practical condition of full-size piles in site.

Study on the response of postside-grouted piles subjected to lateral loading in calcareous sand

TL;DR: In this paper, post-grouting at the pile side has a significant effect on improving the horizontal bearing capacity and strengthening the deformation control ability of the pile in calcareous sand, while showing approximately the same characteristics as that of the postgrouted pile in siliceous sand under the same conditions.
